It's more about clean headroom than volume.

I agree. I use my valveking with a booster to punch the preamp with some power cos I can't crank it in my basement. I can get it up to 4 or 5 mind you ...

I use my amp's 6V6GC overdrive and then I boost that with an Yngwie Malmsteen preamp booster. But I picked the orange amp choice by accident.

I change them once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. I play at least 2 hours a night though. More on the weekends when practicing with friends.
