You could maybe try to find a Kurt Cobain mustang pickguard.
They have the humbucker route but I am not 100% sure if it will line up.
I know someone here should know the answer. |

the pickups do look oversized for the guard.
Almost every pickup looks weird on a Mustang except the Stock ones to me. |

I have my Mullet-Stang and Fender Bronco.
If you ever have a shot at a Bronco I highly recommend picking one up. |

I always thought the orginal J Mascis Jazzmaster (CIJ) was one of the best Jazzmasters out there. I currently have one and it's a great guitar if you can still find them. |

If I had to choose one, I would go Bronco. Very responsive and it's the easiest for me to work while playing.
After the Bronco, I would go JM/Jaguar and then Mustang.

Starcaster.
I found my Super-sonic to be very unbalanced and not comfortable to hold. I gased for the Super-sonic for long time, but was underwhelmed in person. |

I love the stock pickups in my J Mascis Jazzmaster (purple sparkle), though I believe they are a little hotter than standard JM pickups.
I would stick with AVRI or possibly Seymour Duncan Antiquit ... |
