Who plays with these? I've just ordered some packs of D'Addario 11–49 with wound Gs. Plain Gs have always sounded a bit dull to me, particularly on my Jaguar. Ima try them on my Jazzmaster as well. |

I think about 100 years ago Paul_ posted that a wound G is more of a "Team Player" and it was the perfect assessment.
An unwound G sounds off. _________________

I use a wound G on my hollow body, but not on my other electrics. I used to but one bridge is compensated so a wound G won't play intune and I've not tried one on my strat. To be honest though I don't think I'd get on with them on my solid bodies, they do stop me bending strings so much but the increased tension just feels a little weird when playing different styles of music. |

I've avoided them till now. The G seems to be my favorite string to bend, so I'm not sure how well I'd get on with them. Lately a 10-52 set has been feeling just right to me, although I could see stepping that up to a set of 11s without a wound G. |

The D'Addario .010 set I use on the acoustic guitar has a wound 3rd. I don't normally use a wound 3rd on electrics; I prefer the twang of a plain string.
The original staggered polepiece pickup I thought was designed for a wound 3rd which is one reason a plain 3rd is dominant with the staggered polepieces. Many cast bridges are designed to intonate with a wound 3rd. |

No - there is another. I've heard tales of 13s, 13s I tell you. You can bend 'em, but they bend you back. |

Is this getting into wound B territory then? |
