Hi all,
I have a blue Squier cyclone that I don't really like much. Pickups suck and the neck sucks (too skinny and flat). Bought it for $150 after missing my MIJ Mustang Special Pawn Shop.
Should I replace the neck and the pickups in the Cyclone? What neck do I choose? Mustang, jazzmaster?

I'll probably pick up some cheapo pickups from GFS.
OR should I just ditch this thing and get a new Squier Mustang (even though i do prefer a hardtail like the special)? All thoughts appreciated!
Greg
Wish those MIJ mustang specials weren't so expensive! |

sounds like a lot of work for something you don't really like
i'd sell it cos it sounds like you'd make a profit, and then reevaluate from there |

Sell it, buy a squier mustang and lock down the trem. The necks are properly chunky on the Mustangs and there's not too many Fender 24.75" necks floating around for your cyclone. |

Yeah, sell the Cyclone. The Squier Mustangs seem to be good guitars in general. Also try a Squier Jaguar if possible. I used to have one and loved it. Good necks and great pickups. |

I agree, sell the cyclone. I have one too. the Pickups are horrible. I dont even know if its worth my time to swap them out.
the neck i have an issue with as well. I did a Tru-oil on the neck and it made it better, i also filed the fret ends, and rolled the endges. so much better. but I think it ends there.... haha
Its weird, i have a 2014 Squier '51 and the PU's are killer.... go fig.... |

Yeah, I played a VM Jag again yesterday at the guitar shop... really regret selling mine, especially as they've gone up $100 now. |

i don't think you can just swap out the neck with a shortscale neck. these are 24.75" scale. _________________
