I liked the white guitar so much, I picked up a black one to mod. This one is just going to have a bridge pickup, volume, tone, and jack. No neck pickup or toggle. Getting a red tort guard made for it and some black tele style knobs.
Here are some pictures. Comparisons to the white one. This one is a month older according to the neck stamp. The ferrules in the back actually fell out when I took the strings off. I will likely need to add a little superglue or something in the holes and pop them back in. Kind of funny and not a big deal. Everything else other than the stamps are pretty much the same. The neck on this one has a nicer rosewood and even a slight flame on the back. I took the neck off to do the stain and tung oil treatment just like the other.

My OCD got the better of me and I tried to tug the ribbon up a bit and ripped it..... So I took everything apart and pulled the pickup, ripped all the ribbon off and wrapped electrical tape around the pickup in its place. Not probably the perfect fix, but it kind of looks better. Even with the thinner electrical tape I am having problems with the pickup wanting to pull the electrical tape down. I guess Trembuckers are just a little too big for these openings?

Trembuckers almost always fit without any filing, but it can be tight. When the corners are more rounded rather than sharp it sometimes limits the range of up/down adjustment.
Sorry to hear about your shoehorning mess with the trembucker... Looks just fine from on top and the black/tort/black contrast looks great with knobs and bucker in tandem.

I'm cool with it. All it needs is a few fresh chunks of quality mozzarella di bufala and a few basil sprigs.

I think the tort is ok. It looks a lot like my older Japanese Fender guitars. Not fancy expensive tort, but nice random patterns and stuff. I have seen worse tort for sure.
I got a new pickup for it that doesn't wedge in the pickup opening. A nice Fender Atomic Humbucker which is kind of their version of a JB but a little different. Sounds great still and I can adjust the pickup without it falling apart...
