I love the way it looks and sounds but it's just far too big, heavy and loud for my needs. I just play at home. I only own it because I was offered it for cheaps a few years ago.
So what's out there that's similar sounding but smaller, lighter and cheaper? Something loud enough to be played with a drummer.
The Blues Junior III has caught my eye, available for around £300 used. I get my dirt from pedals (OCD and Muff). |

The only answer is a Deluxe Reverb. Did a straight trade (1970 Twin to 68 DRRI) with a friend a few years ago and never looked back. Still PLENTY loud, easy to carry thanks to smaller dimensions and about half the weight. Bit brighter and more lively than a Twin but still great unmistakable Fender cleans.
By the way my friend ended up trading the twin about 4 times (Traynor, Ampeg, Vox) before ending up with another DRRI. |

Yeah a Deluxe Reverb has crossed my mind too. I mistakenly thought it was only a little bit smaller.
If – and it's a big if – I was to find someone willing to swap, how much cash do you reckon I should ask my way? |

If you just play at home then a Princeton might be worth a look?
Edit: oh, just saw the bit about a drummer. Maybe not. _________________

I'm just going to smash it in with a hammer and hope it works. Tone is all in the fingers anyway. |

The used price difference is negligible, even though the Twin is the pricier amp new and some of that value does carry into resale, the Deluxe Reverb is more valuable to many players for obvious reasons. It also depends on the condition of either amp. In the case of my trade, my Twin was in about 7/10 condition, and his DRRI like new. I was content with a straight trade because I figured if I traded it to a shop I would probably still need to put cash towards the DRRI, and I wanted it anyway.
In any case he also threw in a cheap Gretsch resonator to even out the trade, which I later sold to a friend for $200. |
