I sold my OCD v1.4 and regret it.
Since then I've tried:
- EHX Soul Food: horrible mid-hump. I clearly don't want a klone.
- EHX Glove: similar to OCD but not as smooth
- EHX Crayon: very transparent but dry and anaemic – no overtones/harmonics
- OCDs v1.7 and v2.0: both too bassy – even with tone controls fully clockwise
- TC Electronic MojoMojo: cheap and very transparent & uncompressed, but shit on neck pickup – bass strings sound like farty mush.
Before I re-buy an OCD v1.4, what else should I be trying? Something easily available in the UK/EU for around £100 max.

I find OCDs to be too middy. What amp are you using it with?
Also, the MojoMojo has a bass control - could you not dial that out? My TC Spark's bass and treble works really well.
A Deluxe Reverb reissue. I only ever played my old OCD v1.4 in LP mode; I found the mid boost to be very slight to barely-existent.
Yeah I've fiddled with the MojoMojo's (awful name) EQ and I just can't dial out the fartiness. Sounds great on bridge pickups (Jaguar & Mustang) but neck and middle positions are shite.

I'd recommend checking out a BOSS OD3 with a Deluxe Reverb and other Fendery amps. Solid standalone drive that sounds like what you're after, and cheap as hell. Lot of videos on YouTube to check out that pairing.

Mine's been broken for a few years now (the input jack is broken and my botched attempt to fix it didn't help) so unfortunately I can't test with my AC15. I used to use it with my '70 silverface Twin, but I have since seen it on the pedalboards of quite a few AC15 users locally so I imagine there's a reason.
I should have replaced it years ago but since I technically already had one couldn't bring myself to buy it again. I probably should soon though, or have someone finally take a look at mine.

Nobels ODR-1 is the best od pedal I've ever had.
See, I had one and really wasn't arsed about it. Almost want to try one again to check I wasn't doing it wrong.
What was the reason you disliked it? Funny thing, I had a Bad Monkey once (around the same time as the Nobels) and actually didn't care for it either. I think it came down to preferring the Nobel's spectrum control to the Bad Monkey's 2 band EQ.
The problem with discussing music gear or any other activity that relies on piecing together multiple components (cars, hi-fi audio, computers, crafts, etc), is there are so many other variables to the sound besides the pedal, the answer to the OP's question is probably just try a few things until you get the sound you want. Trust your own ears, unless you're using the same gear and are after the same sound as someone else. I did like the Nobels, but if you took my advice and got one, you might use it for years thinking it's the best thing only to find out down the road either a TS-9 or SD-1 would have suited your needs better and maybe have been more readily available. Same goes for any expensive "boutique" stuff that touts itself as superior alternatives to readily available production pedals. Build quality is one thing, but sound is subjective.
Do yourself a favour, and save up and get him to put a DLS in the same box.
In the meantime, satisfy your gas and buy the Danelectro Timmy Clone for £20 or £30.
Do you mean his Salt Storm pedal? Looks alright that.
Danelectros are just too ugly; I have standards you know.
I'm not sure what the Saltstorm is based on, but Mike used to always do a lot of custom work. If you wanted a particular pedal, like the 1.4 or even wanted it tweaked a bit, he's your man. _________________
