The topic is simple: I need to buy a not expensive delay but with tons of functions and modes; I want to know your choice and justify it with a comment. Other options can be accepted of course. I hope that this could be a constructive, useful thread for everyone finds himself at taking this decision in future. _________________ -Guitar: Squier VM Mustang, Squier CV '50 Duo Sonic;

The Flashback II works great for me. Covers all the bases. You might also consider the Zoom MS-70CDR— lots of options and you can have multiple delays. I have both of these and really like them. |

Memory Man with Hazarai. Great sounds and lots of weird creative stuff.
Also consider a Line 6 M5, lots of great delay sounds and interesting other things. Buy it for the delays and reverbs, and treat the other stuff as free gifts. _________________

I've got an EHX Canyon, some thinky thoughts:
PROZE:
- You can turn off the main footswitch 'tap' functionality for less-fussy bypassing, use Tap input instead, profit
- Loads of tweakable sounds, varying from subtle to batshit (I've gotten everything from a low-gain fuzz to a MicroPOG sound out of this thing, in addition to all the great modulated delays, reverbs, loops, glitches etc.)
- Great value for money
- None of that shitty 'Balance' control stuff that plagued other EHX units, where the mix was always a balanced between wet and dry, meaning your dry signal would take a hit and your levels drop noticeably
CONZ:- The whole 'secondary parameter' thing, really just that:
The FX modes that offer more controls than the small pedal format can accommodate (i.e. all modes but one) require you to hold down the tap/divide button to change which parameters the Delay and Feedback controls will now control (modulation rate, depth, tape age, room size etc.).
They've done a good job managing this though; you set these secondary parameters, press-hold the button again, and it stores those settings for that FX mode, and they remain even after powering-down.
It IS a great pedal, I wish they'd just make a bigger version with the extra parameters on permanent dials- sometimes you just wanna access all of the parameters more easily, as it makes experimenting/working on the fly more fluid.
I'm also a big M9 fan, esp for modulations, so maybe an M5 would be worth your time too; like Paul said, treat all of the extra goodies as additional bang-for-your-buck, even if you're not using them most of the time. You can map ANY parameter to an exp pedal. That alone is sick as fuck, and means you can easily get 2 sounds out of one preset. |

Damn, that's perfect. If you email Mike Matthews that name, it'll get built just so he can use that. _________________

How about Colossal Cave? (That's a bit of a niche nerdy reference, Dots might get it.) |
