and the painting part (covering)....thats just me. i like all my shit to match.
if im watching a band and the drummer is up there with like a white tom, a black bass drum, a steel snare, and a blue floor tom im going to be like fuck this guy sucks.
unless its lightning bolt. then its ok because im blinded by the rawk
my drumset cost 100 bucks from a rummage sale. its an old ludwig and came with some nice double braced CB stands (shit brand). the thing was fucked up looking. then me and my dad (i was 8 ) bought some white covering for them and pimped it out _________________

Well, If money were't an issue, I'd say it's hard to go wrong with Paiste, so long as you stay in their all bronze lines. The Sabian XS series sound pretty damned good and they're only a bit more expensive than the B8s but sound way more complex to my ears. I still use my B8 set quite a bit because sometimes you just need super loud and super trashy.
You seem to have got your heart set on a kit, but I always recommend looking for older (60's) budget kits because for the price, I have found them to consistently out quality modern budget kits. Change the heads, invest in good hardware and bing! You got yourself a good multi-purpose kit. Can be made to sound good enough for recording but you're not gonna cry when you bass drum falls off the back of the van, either. _________________ Last edited by laterallateral on Fri Sep 19, 2014 3:05 pm; edited 115,726 times in total |

Don't fuck around when it comes to drums. just get a nice kit. PDP makes some great affordable stuff. my drummer plays a Yamaha Oak Custom kit and it sounds so heavy. its extremely nice. but it was pretty expensive. on his he doesn't use the 2nd rack tom but has a second floor tom. and he has like 8000 cymbals too.
PDP makes really nice affordable kits though.
EDIT:
him and his kit. Get lots of cymbals.

And more importantly, never own a piccolo snare or china cymbal. They're drum equivalent of Christina Aguilera's vocal wanking after every sustained note. |
China's and side snares are both really cool. You just have to know how to not use them like a twat. _________________

B8 hats sound passable as long as they are never opened. After playing a pair closed, the ZINGG open sound is a complete nonsequitur. Find some used Zildjian A's like New Beats, Quick Beats, or Rock hats.
(Note however that a single B8 on the bottom with a cast Zildjian on top sounds awesome.) |

For cymbals, Sabian B8s or Zildian ZBTs are good starter series. My drummer just got an amazing set of Ddrums for $300 and everything sounds killer. China cymbals are pretty great, methinks, as long as you don't over use 'em. Depends on the style of music of course. _________________
