Just won this on eBay! Teisco/Kawai SG thing. Needs a new bridge and switches and I may replace the pots and jack.

It's probably a piece of crap but I hope to make it at least a little bit better. Smile

Good luck, that's bound to take a lot of work.

However it is something I'd want to try at some point, so keep us up to date. I'd love to see how this turns out.

Aye. It was a rather misguided and spur of the moment purchase...

I'm the only one who's got to deal with it though Smile

In all fairness I've got a friend who has an old kay acoustic or something and it plays amazingly. If you can get the neck straight and the frets level you could be onto a winner.

Some Kay stuff was good and is collectible. This looks more like a 'Top Twenty' variant though, i've had one before and they need a shitload of work. Good bed for a first project though, lets not get too negative here. First thing is to check the truss rod actually works then fit a proper bridge and nut.

well first off.. if its a Kawai its most likely Mahog body/neck (ive had several and they all have been).
Second off.. I know some older blues players (in their 60's./70's) that swear by these guitars and make them really talk.. cool pick on this one!
Third.. this is a body shape that doesnt come around as often as some of the others so you got some near future collectibility in it

If you need another neck they are easy to find!
I have just gave 2 guitars away that would have been perfect for you to use for parts, wish I had them for ya now. Im looking very forwar to seeing
this one being built up!

Its definitely going to be work, but it could make for a nice little guitar.

That's cool, I'm always looking at those cheap japanese guitars on eBay. One day I will take the plunge and get one. I've seen this, looks awesome but it's expensive for a project really: Aria Diamond Jaguar.

those are pretty decent guitars, and it wouldn't take a lot to fix up, really.

You're probably right but as a first project.. i dunno. Crack in the headstock looks dodgy, and the electrics don't work. Also the "rough refinish" covers the back of the neck ha.

Urmm, so yeah a little update.

I haven't done anything to it yet. The truss rod works fine (from what I can tell) and everything else is pretty much as cab be expected.

I'm planning to buy a bridge for it next and I was just wondering if there is anything I should take into account before choosing a bridge? My knowledge of how guitars work is limited and I just need too know if I need to take into account the width of the neck at the nut or anything like that?

I'm sorry if it's a really stupid question but as I said before, I don't know much. Embarassed

YOur pic's are not working any more. But with a ruler and reading from guitar fetish site you should be able to figure out what you need.
