Are there certain guitar strings that are better for certain sounds or guitars than others? How do you know which ones to choose?
I've used GHS Nickel Boomers on a BT Jazzmaster and D'Addario XLs on a Casino and Duo-Sonic because that was what was recommended at the time. I see certain people recommending Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, too, but how do you really know which brand or type to go with? As an aside I'm picking up a Bullet Strat today, so any recommendations for string for it would be appreciated. |

In terms of tension, not sound, most here have been using a heavier string for shorter scale guitars (I use 12s for my peavey).
If you stay in the realm of round-wound strings, an increase in string gauge will cause an increase in tension.
I don't think (though I could be terribly horribly wrong) that brand has much to do with sound, unless your name is Eric Johnson. _________________
Mo is the most sensible person in this thread.
Thanks, man. I decided to try the Ernie Ball Super Slinky .9s on the Bullet as I've never tried that brand before and it was the same price. |

This is like people comparing griptape on skateboards. It's all just personal preference.
I enjoy D'addario because of the colored string ends, the points that earn you rewards, and they usually offer 3 or 10 packs in the size I use.
Boom, send it to threadless. _________________ Burn the South. |
