Old and 2004 don't exactly go together unless we're talking chinese food leftovers.
Though I think it does look rather good, I have a hard time seeing a guitar get that much fretboard wear over the course of 7 years. Also the reverse of the headstock looks pretty deliberate to me. Like burns and ensuing soot stains from passing it over a lit candle, or something.

With old i'd expect a MIJ or at a push MIM Squier. Still, i agree it is tastefully worn.

Depends who you are. It says "my old" not "an old". Maybe he's a 20 year old expectant father who got this guitar for his 12th birthday.
I know what you're saying though... in casual conversation I'd say any of the CBS headstocked Affinities can't be more than "a few years old" because I remember when they came out... when so many shortscalers posted them in the "your first guitars" thread I felt well old.
I was once questioned here on the boards for my use of the term "only recently" to describe something that happened 15 years ago... by some snot-nosed twat-ass punk, granted... but still.

The way the term "relic" is thrown about on ebay these days I think it's a legitimate sale tag if you're selling a beater like that. This earned it's scars by being played and trashed on stage for the most. And it looks great for it.
Yeah, it's clearly been aged before it's time on the neck and contours but it's more genuine than 99% of other "relic'd" guitars. |

Hard to tell by the pics and the lighting but the "screwdriver" marks on the buttend do seem a bit odd. The wear patterns look nicely done though and plenty of gunk on the fingerboard..
Really not tempted to bid on this at all. Nope not at all. No eBay addiction here. |

The thing is, it's clearly been held over an open flame at the headstock, which isn't really natural stage wear unless you're in Kiss/do a lot of heavy fretting over the fronts/backs of your headstocks.

| Maybe he spelled it "Squire" so he could sell it for more to a less informed clientele. Most Squiers I see in pawn shops look authentically crappy too. |

I've been searching ebay using "relic guitar" the last few days, some interesting stuff comes up if you like this sort of thing and some utter crap too.
Best scam is relic'd screws!! I have millions of this buggers in the shed. I could make a fortune in rusty and tarnished screws.  |

| Heh, yeah... especially pickguard screws. Somehow the plating just peels right the fuck off the second you put a screwdriver to them. After that it's a matter of weeks before they're rusted to shit. |

Lol what kind of screws are you using? I just use the Fender screws and never have a problem with them.
