I've noticed when shimming my Mustang's neck for the Tune O Matic that there's a small gap inbetween the neck and the pocket.

Is this a bad thing?

Only has two shims in it. A cut up beer mat and some sandpaper.

once the neck is set up and strings are to tension back off on the neck screws 1 turn, this will draw the neck in snug to the pocket. Often times you will hear a little creaking noise. Then tighten them back up. Your neck will be as snug as it will get and if you have a little gap after that it should be no issue because you will have good contact on the three sides and bottom. so I wouldn't worry about it after that.

Aye did that anyway. But thanks.

Probably could do with filing the tuno down a bit more. And maybe a truss rod adjustment.

I guess it's a bad thing if you're after sustain maybe.

I have seen pictures of wedge shims cut the whole size of the pocket.
