I was unhappy with the prospect of my whammy bars, tuners, and other junk providing a beating to my prized short scale guitars. If they're gonna get chipped and scratched they'll have to earn it honestly! So I added storage to my vintage style Fender guitar cases. I used 1"x 4" pine for the back and sides (ripped down to the proper height). 1/4" engineered laminate for the top(can't recall exactly, but I'll update the post later when I remember-same stuff that I've been using to make pickguard templates). Fake "long" fur from Hancock Fabrics. Leather straps, die, rivets, fasteners and black dye from Tandy Leather. E600 glue. 1/4" staples in the end pieces ( unnecessary in retrospect). 1 1/4" finish nails via my small nail gun. For tools I used a miter saw, table saw, finish nail gun, hammer, scissors, the tools to set the rivets and poppers, silver paint pen, but should've used a white chalk pencil instead as the paint made a mess of things in places.
Here's my results:

Thanks. It took me two attempts before I was happy with how the fabric fit the back and top together. The E600 provides a much better bond than what Fender used and it was a real chore pulling the fabric off after my first try. I initially tried to use a faux leather fabric on the inside between the back and top, but it was to thick and failed. _________________ Disciple of Pain

There's a lot of space in there, you could even add a second thing. |

I never thought of that, but you're right. I could add another compartment for picks and smaller bits, so that don't all get jumbled up. I don't recall ever seeing a case with that type of feature. Great idea! _________________ Disciple of Pain
