just sold my Orange AD-5 and need some advice on how to pack it for posting. Never posted an amp before, so any advice would be appreciated.

Take the valves out (carefully) and individually wrap them in tissue paper, then bubble wrap, then put them in an egg box (assuming they're small valves - I think they are). If it's an open back amp, pop the box in there but make sure it can't rattle around. If it's closed back, either post separately, or reinforce the fuck out of the box.
The cabinet itself, bubble wrap it, but pay particular attention to the corners, and do a quadruple pass over where the knobs are if they extrude (think Orange ones are recessed though).
Also, if it's open backed, make sure everything inside the cab is going to stay still (put a big wad of packing material in there): the power cable especially can be a big, destructive hammerhead snake.
Also, assume the buyer is an idiot and tell them what packing you've put inside (and label the valves) so they don't fire it up with the valves in the wrong place, or loads of paper stuffed in the back. |
