Hey guys. So I just got one of the new Gibson RD guitars (NGD post coming soon). I've never been a huge fan of active pickups, but the Gibson GEM pickups in this thing sound SO good. I may not even do it, but I'm considering putting active pickups in my other guitar as well because of these. Ideally, I'd find a set of GEM pickups second hand and just use them, but I've only ever seen them sold by themselves once before and I don't even think they were the same ones.
My biggest issue with active pickups is that they generally sound awesome when distorted, but their cleans are terrible and lifeless. Does anyone know of a decent set of active pickups that doesn't sound like switching my amp to the clean channel simultaneously tosses a wool blanket over the speaker and ages my strings 10 years? I've been looking and watching YouTube videos but thus far, they're all the same. Very disappointing. |

I have no idea, but some people put chorus on the clean signal so it won't sound lifeless. |
