I have the regular black version.
It is indeed loud, and probably the one amp I would keep if I could have only one. |

do an Vaporizer; way nicer than that ugly mid-blue, plus they have the really dumb footswitchable 'channel' that just bypasses the volume control to make it LOUD AS FUCK _________________ andrew floss musics |

I've owned a Vaporizer, I would not put them in the same league as a DRRI, nor do I think I would recommend one at all in retrospect. Good amp for $200 if you're looking for a newer version of a 60's silvertone/airline type thing I guess. I remember it being nasally and breaking up way too early at full band volumes. The single band EQ Tone Knob leaves much to be desired as do the cheap speakers and unusable reverb (put before the preamp in the circuit so it raises the noise floor no matter what setting if it's on). And that's ignoring that dumbass chaos switch lol
The DRRI is basic as fuck but much more a keeper of an amp. |

A nice compromise would probably be this FSR Surf Green Hot Rod Deluxe
If you can find one.
40 Watts. Loud cleans and crunch for days. People hate the onboard distortion but fuck it use pedals. |

Just got a blues jr. put it up against my friends deluxe reverb, it definitely holds its own imo. Almost as loud, stays pretty clean and took pedals well. Not to mention it’s smaller and lighter.
Not super in love with deluxe reverbs, almost bought one to match my bandmates but ended up going for a blues jr and so far I’m happy I did.
Hate hot rod deluxes though, too loud, too heavy, too shrill. Never got on with mine.
Absolutely love the look of colored deluxe reverbs though, makes me want to ignore my post and get one. |

Rob, that's a super awesome amp. Like Nick, I had the 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. The 68 is definitely brighter than the 65, which was a problem for me, but probably not a problem for you. Otherwise they are comparable amps. Mine was loud af. I could play with a drummer with the volume knob on 4. |

These 68 Customs aren't actually the reissues as they have Bassman preamp circuit and should break up sooner on the dial and sound warmer in general than 65 Reissue. But that's all in theory, I never played one _________________

I've never had the 65 reissue, I actually traded a friend my 1970 Twin Reverb for it. I miss the Twin from time to time but don't regret the trade at all.
I'd probably prefer the voice of the 65 Reissue, but I like the 68 so much it's hard to give up what I already have. |
