The Chinese word for "4" and the Chinese word for "death" sound nearly the same. Chinese is the mother language for Japanese and Korean. That's all I know about it.

When I lived in Taiwan, I noticed buildings never have a 4th floor... much like how buildings in the west don't have a 13th floor.
