I double checked seymour duncan site. It doesn't matter what direction you mount pickups. Except for humbuckers and staggered single coils. So you are good to go.

a lot of guys use tru oil. Fran did on one of his projects... I don't know if it's a "tint" but it's used as an alternative to clear coat
