Re: Mustang VI - digging for the bottom end

Thanks! In just over 2 weeks I will have a six week break and I have most of the parts ready to go - got a sheet of aged white pearloid to make a pickguard, some maple to veneer the headstock, etc ... I'm pretty excited that it's finally gonna happen. The Japanese VI I bought has a wider neck than v...

I’m sorry it was in the hands of idiots, but I’m glad to hear you’re bonded to the point where you’re protective of it no matter what cost!

Tell them you have a bunch of potential customers on a forum waiting to see how they handle the situation.

Re: From 5 to 4, restored an '86 P Bass

It sure is weird, a very clean job tho. I have some maple scraps and I might see if I can cut a plug somehow.
I’m a bit horrified to say it but I am still preferring the SX Jazz to the Fender. Might just have to admit it’s better for me.

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
Good luck getting the store to reimburse you - maybe involving a credit card company (or threatening to) could give you leverage?

From 5 to 4, restored an '86 P Bass

I often browse my local Cash Converters for guitars, which are usually crap, but a few months ago I did a double take when I saw a Fender P Bass there. It was cheap because it had been given a janky 5 string conversion and a hideous amateur scratch plate, but clearly a long time ago because there wa...

Re: What are your favourite/dream acoustics

Generally the Japanese stuff is pretty excellent. You could get yourself an early 70s Yamaha folk guitar, plywood tops but they sound wonderful anyway. Also the "Cat's Eyes" models by Tokai are great Martin copies with a range of construction quality. I have a K Yairi acoustic from the 80s...

Re: pictures of your guitars here

Interestingly that first pic with the string mutes looks almost like there's a threaded insert in the cover mounting holes. It'd be a challenge to get it in there!

Re: pictures of your guitars here

I'm surprised how nice it is for an inexpensive SX. Nick if you're talking about the chrome covers I think just screwholes and screws is the standard way to put them on?
Meant to say how cool the silverburst JM is, I thought I was looking at a black and white photo there!

Re: I bought a bass - NOW WITH VIDEO

Well, it arrived, and right off the bat it's pretty different to yours colour-wise. Neck has that super orange "vintage" colour they used on some of the older AVRI series, which frankly I hate, but I can live with it I guess. The green is strange, I don't know if it's meant to be a dark Se...

Re: I bought a bass - NOW WITH VIDEO

I guess this is where I reveal that I'm a Khruangbin appreciator which is what lit the fuse for me. Also love the super skinny necks on J basses. Oddly enough these cheaper ones probably work around the weakness that the original Fenders had - if you overtighten the truss rod (to the end of the thre...

Not Photoshop any more - here's a test fit, the bridge position is approx correct for the neck sitting slightly out of the pocket (to match where the back of the neck transitions to the body joint). Mustang control plate, Jag switches, thinking maybe 2 pickups and a strangle? if the Mustang VI was a...

Hope you had a good time! I gotta say it is one of the easier places in the world to have lived through the pandemic, but our luck will run out sooner or later.
