Re: Epiphone LP Special SL/Melody Maker E1

I believe they can typically be replaced with Strat pickups, although not all of those are created equal so it can be a tight fit in the pickguard sometimes according to a video by 60 Cycle Hum about a guitar he's since smashed "for charity".

Anyway, I've recently decided to gift this guitar to my ...

Really wanted one of these a few months back, don’t think it’s in the budget now, though. Looks nice!

Epiphone LP Special SL/Melody Maker E1

Love it. Got the yellow one as it was intended to replace my DIY LP DC Junior that I accidentally backed my car over about a year ago (pictured is my other one). I think mine had a bit of setup before being shipped as it has no business playing so well. Sounds great plugged in too, has a bratty ...

Import switchcraft copies

Bought a Chinese right-angle 3-way toggle to fix up an SG; had never seen these before (or maybe they were actually posted about here) but they’re nice and cheap.

For the record, a standard 3-way import toggle is slightly too thick for a Gibson SG, it’ll push the backplate out.

Re: Stacking drives/distortions, where would you place them?

I tend to order things in terms of how much gain they’re bringing to the table. I’d put the DS-1 first because it barely does anything.

Re: '99 Stratocaster pickup query

Might be an American Traditional neck with an MIM or Squier body, but it does have the US-specific microtilt route in the neck pocket. With prices these days it might not actually be that much of a rip-off.

It’s probably for the garbage disposal that got ripped out to make room for a Kahler in the early ‘80s. Or the rotating leopard print waterbed it had as standard.

Re: SHORTSCALEGEARDEMO VOX MV 50

While that’s true in the “intended use” sense, a lot of people do use them to bolster the tone of boring sounding amps. I use an American or British Sound into a Bassman Ten because that amp otherwise has pretty much nothing cool going on, and teh Kurtdz’s dirty tone for the In Utero touring era was ...

Re: Wah

To me kicking on wah-wah is like doing shots of vodka: fun spontaneously with friends (used tons of wah in my band) but undeniably more of a worrying moment when you find yourself doing it at home by yourself for a couple hours on a weekday.

I've had the '90s Vox V847 reissue since around 1997. The ...
