I got a hiscox jaguar case and simply cut foam to the shape of the top of my mustang and taped it in. It seems to be pretty sturdy. And after dropping my mustang down a flight of stairs in the hiscox case, without the guitar going out of tune, i recommend them highly.

Open back 2x12 combos

Is it safe to sit these amps on their side in order to save space? It's my old line 6 spider III i want to do this with in order to make room for an orange 2x12 cab with a tiny terror head. I'd just rather it didnt collapse, or snap, or end up with a split in the wood or something as its now the amp...

I would say a dual pickup version of this:

I have one of them, and they sound amazing. Mines cost £35, not as good as $5, but still a good bargain, i would say.

Having played one of these back to back with a Mexican strat, I must say, I would go for this without a seconds doubt. It feels much better that the Mexican and it sounds better.

Now if only the truss rod didn't leave a big minging hole in the headstock....

Anyways, i say you demo it. :)

Nords are utterly phenomenal synths, but as you said, well over the 1000 mark.

I would highly recommend the Microkorg, its relatively cheap and has a great range of sounds. Plus the vocoder and the arpeggiator provide days worth of dicking about. :)

After reading through this and researching options, i have decided an orang tiny terror and 2x12 would probably give me what im looking for. However, my friend recommended a Marshall 5 through a cabinet, but after looking at pictures of it, the only jack output i can see is headphones. Would this wo...

Ah, sorry. We play Mogwai influenced stuff, bugger loads of fuzz, delay and reverb. I'm not that interested in a loop as i probably wouldn't use it anyways. On board effects wont be used. My spider is 150 watts as it was down in price to the same as the 75 watt in a sale, so i thought i may aswell g...

Right, Tube amps.

Could anyone recommend me a tube amp that would keep up with a band situation without being mic'd up? I have a line 6 spider III at the moment and its horrid. My budget is about £650 - 700, but i have NO experience with tube amps, and i live miles away from the nearest store, so trying amps out is ...

I would search Ebay and the likes for a black Russian Big Muff. I got mine for 35 quid off Ebay and its the best fuzz pedal i own, closely followed by my new purchase, the tone wicker one. Steer clear of the Nano Muff though. I was given it as a gift and its only good for boosting the treble when i'...

If yu are using a DS-1 dont put the Dist. or level knobs over half way or it rapes your sound. And the tone knob is pretty shit aswell. I use it for very mild driven stuff. And my Dist.
knob is never past quarter to.

EDIT: Even then its a peice of crap. But i got it for 15 quid.

More muffs can always be a good thing. Having three isn't classed as fuzz overkill is it?

Mustang neck swap.

I was wondering if a 69 RI Mustang neck would swap directly with a Squier Duo-Sonic? Im looking to get the Duo pretty soon as a guitar for taking up to halls when i'm away to uni but i would love to have a rosewood neck on it, and a maple neck on my Mustang. I tried a search, but i couldn't find any...

I use 12's or 13's on my Mustang. But i tend to go for 10's on my Les Paul. My friend uses 9's on his jag, and it just feels like im going to snap the e string whenever i play it.

matocaster - That is a cracking jag! I think i'd sell an organ for that.

crofty - How much would you be looking for and are you based? England or Scotland?

Well i have decided my Epiphone Les Paul will be getting sold so i can just go for a Fender.
