Seems that Seymour Duncan are offering gold cases for their pickups now, so you don't need to deal with this shite.

It's a very blue shade of black, for you.

Ideal for crack for one, but a bit tiresome if you're entertaining.

Re: Fender Goldfoils WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAAT
What seems to have been overlooked is that these pickups aren't really 'goldfoils' at all, just mini humbuckers with gold mesh covers. That's why they sound like mini humbuckers in the demos. I'd assumed they'd be fairly hot strat pickups (which I think the GFS ones are?). Mini humbuckers are cool,...

Re: New jaguar tele custom mash up THE BELLYMASTER
How much of a vacuum does it need to be for vacuum potting? Like, if you half filled a largish jar with wax, popped the pickup in, closed the lid, and then cooled it, would that negative pressure be enough I wonder? Sounds super frustrating. Is there another tele pickup knocking around you could dro...

Re: OGD - Epiphone Emperor Regent
Yep, can't remember the actual date, but know that it's a Peerless factory MIK.
I seem to think it was made in 1997, but I haven't run the serial number in over a decade.
I got it in 2003ish. It seemed an old guitar then, strange to think that it was very much quite new.

Re: Fender Goldfoils WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAAT
Jazzmaster looks very "cheapish cool guitars with funny shaped headstocks from an unnamed factory in Asia."
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but they look like they like they should be Harley Bentons or GFS home brand or something.

OGD - Epiphone Emperor Regent
When I was back home for Christmas, I picked this up from my parents' place. I got this second hand when I was in my late teens and played loads of gigs with it. When I got it, I intended it to be my first foray into acoustic guitars (or acoustic adjacent), but I always played it pretty aggressively...

So.... as well as recently picking up my absolute dream jaguar, you've now got my absolute dream jazzmaster.
Love the look of these things.

Waxpot all the valves, too, just to be sure.
Do BKP not sometimes do non-waxpotted by request? or that sort of half wax-potting that some people do?

Re: Dano-style bass for kids
Well, in favour of the strat, they are easy to fix, and easier to cannibalise together. And that presents teachable moments. I spend a fair bit of of my break and lunchtimes teaching other guitar nerds how to take apart and fix strats.

Re: Dano-style bass for kids
Love the idea of a rubber foot. I think about this a lot, as I teach guitar to 400 different children across a two week timetable. Things get trashed (except for Roland Cubes, which I'm yet to encounter a dead one of). I try to think of ways that I would cut out non-essential features to make things...

Definitely a guitar issue and not a microphonic valve in the amp or something?

PSA: Pink Stuff as Fret Polishing Compound
... seems to work! The Pink Stuff is one of those miracle cleaning compounds. It's basically a mild abrasive that breaks down as you work it to become finer. It seems to have a bit of mild detergent and maybe some baking soda or something in there too (it seems to soften and loosen things a little j...
