Re: shortscale photography thread.

I meant to reply to these. I like them, good shots. I suppose it's a tricky thing to get good photographs of? Sometimes compelling things don't make for compelling photographs, and you end up scratching your head afterwards wondering how you missed. But these are good! I especially like the King ...

Re: Refinishing James’s Old Cabinet

Looks great, and looks like it suits your room better, which matters when it's a largish piece of furniture that your partner is indulging.

I preferred the purple, but that's mostly because I prefer daft looking things.

That's very cheap for something that has so many odd or non-standard appointments, like the weird pickup ring, the headstock shape etc.

Re: NMODCJRD

"about" 8.8k they say on their website, which feels hottish for "vintage." But then that doesn't really mean anything in the real world. I know that some have a trick of taking a hotter pickup and leaving it fairly far away from the strings, so you get the big bodied chimes but without the squishy ...

Re: NMODCJRD

I'd be interested to see how you get on with the Amber pickup after a wee while. I've never heard of them, but price-wise they look like they're higher end. Wonder what the pickup is? Do they do custom? Is there a serial number or model identifier or anything that you can email them and find out ...

Haha, yes!

Gorgeous. I think I like it blacked out, but also wonder what it a nice, darkish tort guard would look like on it.

Re: pictures of your guitars here

The Vantage and the Westone are mine, the Aria is a more budget model from the same era-ish.

Bolt on neck instead of set, I remember taking it apart aaaages ago and being surprised at the pickups. I think I remember concluding that it could be an end of production mongrel type guitar with odd ...

Re: pictures of your guitars here

It's a great guitar. I still feel bad about the price I paid for it.

I think there was a dimarzio and a dimarzio-clone in it when I got it, but I managed to get some MMK-45s a while back, so it's back to spec.

Re: pictures of your guitars here

A friend had me fix up an old guitar he received in a trade. I took the opportunity for some Matsumoku family photos. I'll post about the guitar properly at some point.

Re: Vintage Japanese Tele bass

Loving this thread. I had downloaded a stack of early mats and aria catalogues at one point, and this reminded me of the sort of thing you saw in the earlier ones, before they started designing their own guitars.

I love the weird itch of trying to work out exactly what it is you have and from when.

Re: shortscale photography thread.

Also, as much as I love the Micro-Nikkor 55mm lens, I've always wanted something a bit quicker than f/3.5 so that I can possibly shoot indoors.

The 50mm f1.8 is very common, and I kept an eye on ebay and eventually got this Series E for cheap. The listing described it as "bent," referring to the ...

Re: shortscale photography thread.

First go developing. Because of being skint and having a pile of colour film, I went C41, which is a bit trickier, apparently. Used a big water bath to keep temperatures at 39C.

Some conclusions before the photos (which are all snapshots for the sake of testing things, rather than "good" photos ...

Re: shortscale photography thread.

A few more. An issue is that some of the film is a little curled, which gives these sort of blown out corners. Might have a think about leaving film in heavy books for a few days to see if that flattens it.

Re: shortscale photography thread.

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the results.

I initially made my own film strip holder from stiff card and used a packaging tube cut to about the minimal focal distance of one of the lenses that my wife has for her D5300. Sort of a homemade ES-2. This sort of worked, but not very well. The image that ...

Re: shortscale photography thread.

Long time no update...

I haven't really thought about photography in a long time. Pretty much since I started my current career. This is probably indicative of a poor work/life balance. I've been off work for a while and reassessing things and decided to get back into it, but the price of shooting ...

Re: N(ish)GD - Player Telecaster Limited Edition

Pics aren't working for me, but this is the modern equivalent of the Baja, isn't it?

I'm also an Aerodyne owner and one of the biggest regrets I have is not buying a Baja for £350 or whatever they were back in 2009ish. One of the only guitars that I still really, really want.

We have similar ...
