Similar to the beer fill port that Vox provides to top up the AC-30 with valve coolant.

Me kid. Well done!

Yeh, you're pretty much out of luck finding shortcuts to unstringing the inside strings on a Rick 12, especially if you have the "R" tailpiece where you hook two string-ends in each slot. Stringing's not bad tho, if you use a capo to clamp the new string to the neck so it doesn't fall out ...

B8 hats sound passable as long as they are never opened. After playing a pair closed, the ZINGG open sound is a complete nonsequitur. Find some used Zildjian A's like New Beats, Quick Beats, or Rock hats.

(Note however that a single B8 on the bottom with a cast Zildjian on top sounds awesome.)

Looking at a diagram of that amp... it could be that some dodgy/vibrating connections at/around the tube sockets (like Will says) were interrupting the bias voltage that normally keeps the power tubes in their safe range. Cut off that voltage, and the tubes would pass way too much current, part of w...

Winterizing the MBM Fuzz Face

The following is probably elementary knowledge to Mike & you other pedalpants people, but it was interesting for a fuzznoob like me to discover.... The temperature in the Rock Room this time of year is probably 8-12 degrees (American) cooler than the rest of the house, even less if it's frosty o...

Wanna see pix! The smaller the knob you use on a pot, the farther it'll sweep with a given amount of twist. Of course, a smaller knob gives you less leverage against the pot's internal friction so it's harder to twist. But that may be one option. Or you could use one half of a stereo blend pot, the ...

Sweet Twin sounds, especially, and well demo'd. I agree about the Fender cleans (use a Twin myself) though I wonder if the Vox, with its emphasis focused more in the midrange, might come through more easily in a dense mix? Of course, Twins wouldn't be legendary if they didn't work well in tons of di...

I don't think any tubes absolutely need a retainer, as long as the sockets are good n tight.

That schematic is Pure Evilness. Bonus points for the right-angle ribbon cable folds though.

Did the attack distortion disappear?

A "line out" jack puts out a "line level" signal roughly similar to what you'd get straight out of an electric guitar, or from the out jack on a home stereo component like a CD changer. It's intended to feed some other bit of equipment such as a mixer, amp, stomp box, recording i...

Was the loud pop while you were hitting a low note/string hard, such as a loud chord using low notes like A, G, or E? what does that indicate BTW? My 135W Twin used to do this (at high volume settings only), and I've heard a Fender Super Six (same chassis) do this too. I wish I could locate the bac...

Sounds power supply-ish, though possibly tube-related. Clean them tube pins first and see if that makes a diff. If you've got a choob rectifier, that might be a suspect.

+1 on Aeon's settings; I often do something like Treb 4 Mid 7 Bass 4, and turn the Bright switch on. That keeps the treble under control but still adds some sparkle up above the general range of the Treble knob.
