Someday my mods will get less klutzy, and then maybe I can.

One more question on this. I've got a Dream 90 in the neck position, Mean 90 bridge, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 3-way toggle. Previously, I had the ground wire from the neck pup soldered to the back of the volume pot and the ground wire from the bridge pup soldered to the ground lug of the toggle. Look...

Thanks, guys. Getting the bushing out turned out to be much easier than I expected, and it doesn't look I'll have any trouble getting a new wire through there. I'll try to get it all wired up again this weekend.

Grounding question

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been around much lately; I've been super busy working/recording. Anyway, I've got the Mockingbird disassembled again, this time to slop shielding paint into it, and I have a possibly-very-elementary question. The shielding paint I bought came with a ground wire and lug, but...

Belated NGD: 1965ish Intermark Cipher Ranger

My congratuhousewarmingmas gift to myself actually arrived a couple of weeks ago, but when I started taking it apart to clean it and set it up, I discovered that the screws on the truss rod cover were stripped and wouldn't budge. I fought with them for a full afternoon, then took it to the nearest s...

Whoa... what the hell am I looking at? Beauty itself. That's awesome of you, cur. The seller explained in the listing that they patched it up the best they could with the slide switches after some clown routed it for a Tele switch. I'll open it up and post some pics once I get it to see if it's sal...

It hasn't even shipped yet. Here are a couple from the original listing, though.

The one that got away: should I?

I played around on an Intermark Cipher a few months back at the Chicago Music Exchange and fell in love, but my employment situation at the time was such that I could not responsibly think of buying it. Naturally, by the time I did get a real job, it was gone. But here's another one. I may or may no...

I've always wanted to learn how (and probably should), but I have had this one tech at a local music store set up every guitar I've ever had since I started playing. He always does an outstanding job. This was me for a very long time. Fun project idea: maybe try to set up the guitar yourself? I tau...

Trust me, from what you've said elsewhere, you want the original Super-Sonic. Do not settle for the reissue. The neck plays very differently.

The kind you want to avoid on a Bronco bass looks like this: see where it's got a cutout for the neck heel? If you line that up, the rest of the pickguard won't cover the control cavity. The pickguard you linked to, however, should be the right shape.

I thought I recognized that Bronco. :P The pickguard is from WD. The screw hole placement is different, obviously; be prepared to fill in and paint over some of the old ones. I ignorantly ordered a black one with the neck heel contour on eBay a while back, and no, it does not fit. The seller was coo...

Usually one turns up every several weeks or so. If it's near mint and dead stock, $800 maybe isn't absurd, but you can and will do better unless you're extremely fussy and/or impatient. Maybe not better to the tune of under $500, but don't worry about this one being your last chance or anything. Jus...

If you have small hands and enjoy MIJ Fenders and slim necks, you will love the Super Sonic. Tuning stability shouldn't be an issue if you get it set up correctly. The stock pickups are pretty good for distorted stuff, but the clean tones can get a little muddy, so you might be looking at an upgrade...

It will depend on a lot on the sound you're after and the neck profile you prefer, for starters. If you give us a bit more information about your playing, we can probably offer more useful suggestions.

Thanks. That sounds exactly like what happened here. I don't think a clear coat that requires a respirator is an option for me right now (i.e. the other living beings at my house strongly object). Do I have any less toxic options? For instance, what would happen if I sanded down to the color and add...

Who wants to be mixing buddies?

So here's an idea: I've been working on an album for a very long time, mostly because I'm a perfectionist and life keeps happening. Along the way I've been learning a ton about recording and mixing, but I've been learning in isolation. I can reference my songs against pro tracks I like till the cows...
