Re: NGD (fictionalized)

Yeah, I hate slim taper necks either, they are the worst, thin and wide like an effing fence plank. I've worked a little bit with mahogany, it's usually significantly weaker than maple. Some heavy ass blanks can be tough, but all the special literature says nothing matches hard rock maple anyway. An...

Re: NGD (fictionalized)

At first I thought it was Ivision and thought what a dumb name for a guitar company. Nice guitars. I know of Belarusian luthier Vaschenko, he's been popular on forums like My Les Paul etc. I remember when he first started reposting orders in English that some random American viewers of his Belorusiu...

Re: NGD (fictionalized)

There's also an option of finding a good luthier from a second or third world country and order him to built your dream guitar. It'll have all the bells and whistles, arguably even better electronics and hardware and will cost significantly cheaper than the real deal Custom Shop.

Re: NGD (fictionalized)

$5k is something I'd pay only if I was filthy rich which I'll never be so I'll stick to my guns - bastardized budget guitars. At least the headstocks on my guitars are safe from parting ways with the neck at any moment and that makes my sleep a tad more peaceful. At the same time I do understand how...

Re: NHD

Congrats! Even before I was into music I heard a story about how Yamaha company started. A Japanese guy named Yamaha stumbled upon one of these things in the late 19th century and thought "What the fuck is this thing?" And in order to understand that he decided to fully reproduce it. Which...

I don't post pictures of my kids online where I can help it, but this one already is and I haven't used her name here so ... http://i.imgur.com/qL2Fvbg.jpg Six years later she is adept on guitar and plays Mitski covers by ear flawlessly. I'm a bit jealous that your daughter got to meet her guitar h...

Re: Incoming

These are awesome experiences. She seems to be very original, spontaneous while well spoken and funny in her lyrics, though she's as often just melancholic. I don't listen to albums as much as I should, but I spent a summer listening to Sometimes I Sit and Think over and over again. I've heard she l...

Courtney Barnett is from Hobart, Tasmania. Did you happen see her gigging anywhere around the city before she was famous?

Basically every off the shelf guitar has poorly cut nut and that kind of tool will always be handy

Re: Short scale Epiphones

There’s no reason for that double cut to have the neck like that except it’s probably a bolt on. Shame. I’d do a 24” scale double cut jr and just keep the body regular size. My guess is when they transitioned to the double cut body for the full size Junior model they still had a significant stock o...

Re: Short scale Epiphones

Gotta love the marketing: Sounds Better, Stays in Tune Longer Than what? :? :D Just advertising cliches I suppose 22.73 is such an odd length, I wonder if that’s the sweet spot over 22.50” for not feeling as much like a toy. Yeah, a very weird scale. At first I thought it was a regular 24.75" ...

Re: Short scale Epiphones

Yeah, something that sounds good on paper, but not that good when you take the string tension into consideration. That wrap tail won't help with intonating it as well. I think a maple tele neck would've looked killer on that Blue Paul
