Re: NGD - Squier VM Tele Custom project
Great project! I've never considered wrapping a bushing in tape to fit a larger hole, what a simple solution. I think I once made a dowel, glued it in and drilled a new hole just to make a bushing fit it - a shitton of time and effort it took me to do. As far as I remember those P90s have to be sup...

Re: NGD - Squier VM Tele Custom project
Turned my attention to the body for a while. Either a previous owner had the most acidy acid sweat ever, or it was left out in the rain. How is there rust under the bridge?! Under all the hardware actually. http://i.imgur.com/qEhLS0qh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dmm5A0yh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tL4GH42h.j...

Re: NGD - Squier VM Tele Custom project
Alright, finally getting started on this thing. Rather than work on the body damage, I decided to get it playing first. The frets were pretty beat up, and I wanted to try doing a level and crown. Amateur hour up in here but I'm satisfied with the results. A couple things surprised me after taking th...

NGD - Squier VM Tele Custom project
A while back I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more guitars until I got all my broken ones in working order...and well, I've done a pretty good job of sticking with that, but at $100 I couldn't pass this up. This model is from the late 00s. I actually had one of these in 2010ish and regretted sel...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
the neck pickup is a bloody Gibson USA something something, it's most probably a 498T because it sounds so much like my old LP Studio, but could be a Burstbucker too - there's no marking on it to discern. If it's a BB it ought to have a sticker on the back saying which one it is. Someone could've r...

Re: Machine heads!
I have D'Addario (Planet Waves) auto-trim tuners on one of my guitars and love them. It seems like a gimmick but it's not. It's convenient, yeah, but they also hold tune well. That said, I'd probably just do Kluson-style with the slot where you pre-trim the string and insert it in the top of the pos...

Re: Finishing a high school project
Well, it's not in perfect condition otherwise...the finish is gone from the edge of the fretboard, and it has several noticeable scratches. It does have sentimental value, though, so I I'm leaning toward fixing it. I really like the profile. On the other hand, the only one I can find for sale is $69...

Re: Finishing a high school project
Yeah, it was donated to me years ago as its own project from a friend who attempted to put larger frets on. He didn't have the proper tools or the time to make it work, and I guess he got tired of having it around. I might be able to fix them, but, big frets on a 7.25" radius don't make sense t...

Re: Finishing a high school project
I thought this was going to be about finally finishing that paper. Well, as part of the original high school project I DID write a paper on building it :D Wish I could find that. So...did I say I'd compare over the weekend? Yeah, I meant Tuesday night  I found the old body...and then some! Lik...

Re: Finishing a high school project
Thanks! I haven't done something this big in years, and almost forgot how rewarding it is. So, just for fun...I found some pictures of the original high school project (the one that made it to completion), circa 2004. Not bad for a first shot, but it's a reminder of why I decided to redo it. Hard ed...

Re: Finishing a high school project
Well here's some of that then! Might be a while before the next update...I'm heading back home, where I don't have a proper workspace set up right now. But this has been good motivation to make that happen. Lopped off the extra bit of neck pocket. I'll fix the sides and edges later. You can also see...

Re: Finishing a high school project
Oh wow I remember when you first built this! Awesome that you're finally finishing it! Hah I wondered if anyone would remember :D That one actually did make it to completion (this was going to be round 2). But, a few years later I decided to refinish it, and while it was hanging to dry it fell and ...

Finishing a high school project
I'm visiting my parents for Christmas and found something I forgot I left with my dad: A body I made 17 years ago when I was first learning to work on guitars. It's in pretty rough shape, but since he has a full shop, that's about to change! Here's how I found it...I had only roughed in a neck pocke...

These prices are crazy though, nearly $1200 bucks for a Made in Mexico modified Jaguar. Pretty normal for the UK, we've been getting fucked on guitar prices compared to the US for decades. To clarify, the HH Jag is $1149 US. And colors aside, it really doesn't look much different than the old Class...

Brand Name: Human Suitable For: Professional Performance Sounds perfectly reasonable to me  In all seriousness I'm sure it's about the same quality as the Gibson fakes listed on the left (which aren't bad), but personally I can't support buying such a blatant fake. Except I kinda would because ...

Like dis? http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/Johnophean/BB4.jpg Love the look but it probably doesn't sound like you'd think. For one thing, one pickup would need to be RW/RP for it to not hum like a monster (can't recall if AVRI pickups are, but I'm pretty sure MIJ/CIJ and Squier are not). That...
