Re: EHX Lizard Queen - First impressions

The very first pedal I built that wasn't a kit was a Dist+ into a Pushme Pullyou. Escobedo's Harmonic Jerkulator is very underrated, proving a Harmonic Perc doesn't need a whole bunch of fussy values and unobtainium diodes to sound good. My kid built the Fuzzdog kit for the Lizard Queen, which I hav...

Re: Custom pickguards, UK?

I'd like to know too. Last I checked they were really expensive from guitar techs. There must be some money to be made cutting pickguards, but it's a fair bit of work and with custom stuff the likelihood of getting something wrong and having a grumpy customer is high. Come back dazbootman, all is fo...

Re: Fender Goldfoils WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAAT

What seems to have been overlooked is that these pickups aren't really 'goldfoils' at all, just mini humbuckers with gold mesh covers. That's why they sound like mini humbuckers in the demos.

Re: Jonzing for Squier '22 line

I'm not sure that guy is quite well.

I got the Jag, but I'm sending it back because it's a boat anchor. Gonna buy one from Peach cos they weigh their guitars.

Edit: I wonder if all the returns they're selling are due to the weight. This one is 8lb 9oz

Re: Jonzing for Squier '22 line

I'm not sure yet. The tort looks better than the old MIJ Jag and some old Squier torts. Not too red, not too brown! Some of the YT demos have this thing sounding not-too Jaguary, so perhaps the pickups are a bit hot. Easily fixed if that's the case. I paid £400 for this one, which is pretty spicy fo...

PSA!
Andertons have one of these for £319 - it's open box or B-stock innit, but they do look great, don't they?

It's been ages since I had a Jaaaag, so I bought a silver sparkle one.

Re: UK FX Expo on Sunday 19th June - over 20 UK builders

It was underattended - I think a pedal-only show is just too niche to do well unless it's held in the middle of a city - but was genuinely nice to meet all the other pedal makers, some of whom I'd heard of but not seen at other guitar shows. I dragged the kids to it and they weren't too bored. They ...

Thanks! Compared to the last show I did this isn't too much of a schlep for me. I'm taking the family so they can watch the stand whilst I check out the competition :D

UK FX Expo on Sunday 19th June - over 20 UK builders

I'm [Fredric Effects] going to be at this first UK pedal expo on Sunday. It's at The Bonded Warehouse, Stourbridge which is south west of Birmingham. There will be over 20 other UK builders and dealers here with a wide assortment of pedals to try and buy. Perhaps the best news - it's a silent show, ...

Re: Ibanez YY20 Yvette Young sig - it's a fancy Talman

I just bought this for £200, which I think is a pretty good price given how much Talmans (Talmen?) are going for these days. It was the cheapest model from a few years ago, but comes with locking tuners and contour heel, neither of which the J-Line made-in-Japan models have. Picking it up on Sunday....

Re: Worst Ever Reissue Announced

That's way more than I paid for my EGC back in the day. There's also a German company making wooden neck 'Travis Bean' guitars. Using the actual trademark and charging even more than Eastwood.

Re: Ibanez YY20 Yvette Young sig - it's a fancy Talman

I don't think she does many gear demos (although I notice there are a few pedal demos on her insta now) but it's mainly internet fame for being good at tappity-tap math guitar that all the kids do now

Ibanez YY20 Yvette Young sig - it's a fancy Talman

Just announced today. I quite wanted the YY10 but just couldn't with the slime green sparkle finish and I got a couple strats already. This new one is a very nice shade of orange and is a Tele, so I want it alot. Throwing money at the computer didn't work though as it's not available until next spri...

It's a refin. The paint on lots of the Lead series went really bad (milky, flaking) due to the CBS execs furiously jizzing in the paintpots to make the stuff go further and save a few cents.
