I just got the pickups into my Jag yesterday, and I'm really happy with them so far. Way brighter than the P-90s that were in there without being ice-picky at all. They are a little microphonic, but at the low volumes I generally play at I haven't noticed any huge problems. Plus, this means I can sc...

I got one of these as my first tube amp and I was really psyched about it at the time, until I took it into a shop to demo overdrive pedals and the tech there stopped me immediately because of the background noise coming from the amp. After he tested all the tubes he found one that was getting way h...

Are they new? I just saw them after searching for info and pics of them. They are new, I think GFS just posted them on their site a couple weeks ago. These make me want to rewire my Jag Special back to HH to run these. Pretty cool . I'd imagine they'd be between a p-90 and a lipstick . Or a less gn...

Unfortunately I don't, I've just heard that these have the characteristics of the old ones but don't need to be surface-mounted like a lot of the old ones. Someone on Offset Guitars posted some soundclips that make it sound like the pickups are brighter than P-90s but still plenty thick. Personally ...

GFS Gold Foil Pickups in my Jag

After lots of deliberation I've decided to make my Jag HH a Guinea Pig for the new GFS Gold Foil Pickups, specifically the Ferrite single coils. It's got GFS P-90s in it right now but it's lacking high-end character and these seem like an interesting solution for the problem. I'll try and put them i...

Another day, another Digitech reverb pedal

I just saw that Digitech is releasing a new reverb pedal called the Polara, which is a stereo 'verb with seven different modes. It seems really, really similar to the Hardwire RV-7 in what it does, though the paint job is definitely fancier. The halo and modulated modes are interesting, but the Hard...

while the trem system on a jazzy won't yield quite as much sustain as a stoptail or string-through, there is still plenty available. it's the bridge you want to focus your attention on. you can add a lot more sustain by getting rid of the jazzy floating bridge (which is dog shit on the new squiers)...

That's a good point about the lack of sustain, and I honestly kind of like that in the Squier VM Jags with the old bridges I've had a chance to play. The fact that notes got out of the way pretty quickly was nice, so maybe I should keep an eye out for one of the ones with a trem unless this guy give...

Squier VM Hardtail Jazzmaster vs. vintage spec'd version

I've recently come across a chance to get a Blonde VM Hardtail Jazzmaster in a trade and I'm wondering if anyone has any input on the differences in sound between this model and the newer version with the vintage correct trem. For the record, I find the strat jack and bridge kind of unattractive but...

It sounds like the problem is fixed, though I'm not sure what he did differently to make it work. I'll be sure to report back if I find out.

Dropbox unzipping issue, thoughts?

Yo, I'm trying the whole remote collaboration thing for the first time and me and my bandmate have decided to use Dropbox to exchange Garageband files so we can edit and send songs back and forth. I recently uploaded a few tracks for him to work on, all of which made it onto Dropbox without issue, b...

I seriously considered this (and the strat jack Jazzmaster) before the Vintage Modified models came out. I'll pass now, though a part of me wants to get it to have something like a Jagmaster around.

Just get a cheap usb interface and use any standard mic you want. THIS. I've used/owned the Blue Snowball before and it's alright for a bedroom podcast that's going to get squashed into a streamed signal anyway, but don't get any fanciful ideas of tracking anything "with life" above that....

In the long run you'd be better off with a semi decent mic and a USB interface. I don't have any real experience of USB mics but I'm sure you'll get better quality from even a budget dynamic mic So would something like an SM57 be a good starter mic? This is an area I know almost nothing about, but ...

USB Mic Suggestions

Hey all, I've been screwing around with Garage Band recently using a usb-1/4 inch cable I picked up a while back. It's a good way to do basic stuff, but I'd love to be able to record my amp and pedal setup too. Does anyone have experience using Garage Band with a usb mic? Any recommendations for one...

Looks like a great deal, more or less the Fender Cobain Mustang for way less. On a different note, why do Craigslist posters feel the need to post descriptions in all caps? It's an instant turn off, I just feel like if I ever met them they'd just start talking very loudly in a monotone at me.
