Thanks Mickie, I think I'll hold off for now until my funding alternatives become a bit clearer. I'm still enamoured with the Tiny Terror you had for awhile there so I may just end up holding out until I can afford one of those; or a Vox AC15 pops up somewhere.

Any opinions on the Vox Valvetronix AD15VT? There's one up on CL for $120.

For some unearthly reason, when I pan a line hard left it increases the volume, and hard right grounds it out [like a volume pot would work] Is this my shitty behringer mixer acting a damn fool or is that normal??? fuuuuck Could be; or possibly something out of phase if you've got the guitar runnin...

Thanks dudes. I'll keep an eye out for the Laney. Haze--what's the AC15--is that a Vox amp?

Small tube-based combo amp

A may be in the market in a bit for a second guitar amp for the studio. Right now I've got a 15W THD Univalve with a 2x12 cab. I'd like to get something similar around the same wattage and tube-based; but as a combo; though the capability to drive an external cab would be cool. I'd like to spend $30...

Very cool. There's a dude over at TapeOp (Scodiddly) that sells kits to make your own coppertone mics out of a piece of copper pipe. Pretty cool. There was a thread by someone who did a build on it as well that was entertaining.

Seems there are a boatload of choices at this point and I don't have experience with any of the recent ones. I think there's another thread in this forum where people were throwing some things out. I'm not sure what your budget is for something like that; but you're laying out some dough at this poi...

I use the Sony Vegas stuff for movie-makin' and you can import audio to it no problem. I made a movie on an old version of iMovie too and you do it as well. I'd have to think most movie programs accommodate that.

I think a new mic is a good choice; along with monitors. Not sure how happy you are with your Behri USB interface but that could be a spot to upgrade at some point as well. As far as software goes (and Sloan is a big propoent), Reaper seems like a decent choice and is affordable. Protools came out w...

A bit above the budget, but not unreasonable at all if the quality is there. I'll be running these off of my PC, would I want powered monitors? I have been only looking at powered ones, but it just occurred to me that I may not need 'em. Whatever, I may have just divorced from my mind the notion th...

Fun times. My only comment is I'm not real sure what the tube pre is doing for you other than converting the cable ends to something your reamp box likes. You can buy XLR-1/4-in converters at Ratshack and other places for a couple bucks; but if the preamp isn't doing odd things to your guitar signal...

haha, yeah. You can do a search and fing out how to build your own. They're pretty effective for doing basic/non-essential isolation. I have one a buddy of mine built that I use to isolate two guitar amps from eachother during tracking. Works well.

It's possible to do but quite a bit of work to get a sufficient amount of isolation. You need plenty of mass (e.g., layers of sheet rock; solid core doors) along with sealing all corners and other leakage points that can let air/sound out. Then you need to figure a way to get the "box" ven...

Yep to all of the above. What you are hearing is the difference between peak and average volume levels. Your material may be peaking at or near 0 dBFS (digital zero, any higher and things clip); but your average level is likely down around -12 - -18 dBFS. Commercial CDs post-mastering typically have...
