I've got one; they're pretty decent, and nicely mid-forward, plus the 2 'sources' of dirt means you can get a few colours of dirt.

Pushing the Gain Boost into a lower Dist setting yields more oomph (less attack, more lower mids) than keeping the former lower and the latter higher.

Not in a "removing clipping diodes" kinda way, where it doubles in volume, but you get some more volume for sure, since the tone stack is no longer sucking out a good chunk of the signal.

RE: DS-1, I did a simple mod to my gf's DS-1 that basically alters the low -end filter in the tilt tone control to get lower mids back, and make the control more usable ...
