My favorite shortscale...1960 Stratotone Jupiter
Just got a beautiful 1959-1960 Harmony Stratotone Jupiter in excellent condition. The hollow body and wood bridge give it a powerful, growly Blues tone. Powerful because... ...and I had to double-check this...The DeArmond Gold Foil pickups measure 10.2 K neck, and a whopping 11.3 K bridge... It's th...

I wiped on some dark walnut stain and wiped it off. It gives it a darker aged tone and helps the white pickguard stand out better. http://farm1.staticflickr.com/691/23350753866_a59473e300.jpg 20151128_112245 by Christopher Louck , on Flickr http://farm1.staticflickr.com/680/23008942679_2d38cd477c.j...

A Brief History of the Super Strat
A Brief History of the Super Strat Dec 08, 2015 by Rich Murdocco With that slight harmonic rake of the strings, followed by an overdriven pick slide, Eddie Van Halen launched a musical revolution with his band's 1978 debut album and reshaped the guitar-making industry. As rock guitar evolved from t...

RIP, Allen Toussaint
An acquaintance on another Forum, who is caterer for Blues shows in NYC, shared her anecdote: W hen I received Allen’s Hospitality Rider, I was surprised how little, and nonspecific it was. He requested, just dinner for about 14 people, wine, beer, Marlboro cigarettes and the usual: tea, coffee, ...

Re: Why Deluxe Reverb
I am more after Vox sound, its cleans seems to be ringing and bitting, while Deluxe's cleans are more twangy and funky. For number of reasons I can't buy VOX AC30. My type of sound is the early Beatles songs but with more overdrive for the rythm parts and some boosts for solos. Apart from that I'm ...

Best electric guitar amps under $500 USD?
My brother wants an amp for his Les Paul. He plays 1960s Blues-Folk-Rock like Crosby, Stills & Nash; Neal Young; Jesse Colin Young. He plays mainly at home and sometimes jams with friends. No gigs.

...Weight is so hard with bodies because the same wood can be vastly different. I don't know what makes one alder body weigh more or less than another. Seems like it is just luck. I honestly don't mind heavier bodies personally. Probably because I started on bass guitar first in junior high before ...

it felt tiny against my massive frame... </mills and boon boner> The vintage Mustang is lighter than the RIs, I believe. Vintage or reissue, it's a small guitar compared to a Strat. And the neck's not very wide...I'm 6' and 183 lbs and it's a bit small for me, but I'm used to it and have always pre...

Mustang legacy
I thought Hendrix was more a Duo Sonic player. Ya know, I've actually heard both reports. And I'm thinkin it was a Duo-Sonic someone mistook for a Mustang. Or maybe he played both. The Mustang story has him using that in the late 1960s, after he'd played the Duo-Sonic in the picture (did the Duo-So...

Re: Duo-sonic vs Musicmaster (early 60s)
Is the former more sought for? Is the hardware and neck all identical? I am looking at couple of maroonburst musicmasters but there's only a $300 ish difference between the duo-sonics on the market. Need to make an informed choice before spending that kind of dough. PS: what would be a good price f...

Cheers Doug. I've been playing it all day. You're better off with P90s than the P100s, they're really great pickups. The Les Paul Jr guard is cool, as is the guitar itself (I've always fancied a Sunburst one!) Tho I must admit I really love the guard on the Special, its cool in a kinda ugly way. I'...

Blind Owl's 1960s Mustang
A discussion this morning about Canned Heat and their Bluesologist-Guitarist Blind Owl led me to do a little internet search. Never knew one of Blind Owl's axes was a Mustang. And found this list that expands the usual A-list of Mustang slingers: Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, John Fogerty, Kurt Co...
