Thank you Thomas and dylanafghjkl, you guys figured it out! I took off the pickguard and connected it to an amp. Tapping the pickup pole pieces produced an audible click through the speaker. So I lined the switch channel route in the body with electrical tape over the copper shielding and put the gu...

So tonight I wired up the guitar. I fucked up somewhere. I made sure to follow the above series/parallel diagram, going slowly, double checking to make sure I followed the diagram exactly. When I finished, I strung the guitar up and plugged it in. No sound! Well, there is a faint "click" t...

Thanks for the info and the link, Dillon!

I will read the article later tonight, looks very informative.

Would it be better if I solder the wire from the tremolo to where I ground the electronics instead of the copper tape?

Sheilded the cavities today. I used copper tape that has a conductive adhesive on the back, so I assume I don't have to do solder points between each strip of tape. When I hook up the ground wire from the tremolo, do I just solder the other end to the sheilding tape in the pickup cavity? I'm guessin...

Today I drilled all the screw holes for the trem, pickguard and control plate. I also had to enlarge the bridge thimble holes with my drill because the thimbles I bought were a little wider than the holes by a millimeter or so. I also installed straplocks. Thankfully everything went well and I didn'...

Dang, that looks aaaaaace, proper 80s neon colours, laaarvely. Thanks! It's surf green but the shade on this body seems much more intense than the more pastel hue that Fender uses. I don't know if the Warmoth version of surf green is always this bright or if it's an anomaly from when they mixed up ...

Warmoth Mustang build

So a couple of years ago, I had a Japanese 69 RI Mustang. The neck was too skinny and narrow, and my ape-like fingers could never properly do chords on it. Plus I just can't get on with the traditional 7.25" radius. So I got a second hand Warmoth neck with maple fretboard with a wider nut and a...

Mustang neck mounting screw length?

Mustang bodies aren't as thick as other Fender bodies. They are 1.5 inches thick whereas other models are 1.75 inches thick. So my question is this: do mustangs need shorter neck mounting screws than non-mustang Fenders?

Thanks!

http://i.imgur.com/0Xb0OIr.jpg This is hot, you guys. Now that I see this pic, I see that there would be no room for a vintage style mustang bass bridge due to the jazz pickup, as someone here already mentioned. I'm curious to see if there are any colours other than white... that olive colour from ...

I'm loving the PJ mustang bass as well. But I would like it better if it had the vintage Mustang bass bridge that strings through the body. Not a deal breaker for me though, if I get one I'll just have the original style bridge installed by a luthier. I like the Mustang Bass bridge aesthetically sp...

I keep trying to find one of those in butter scotch blonde at a reasonable price. This one? http://magazine.dv247.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/squier-vintage-modified-jazzmaster.jpg I would love to find one of these myself, but they seem pretty hard to find. Pretty cool that they have prope...

The surprising thing to me about the guitar was the truly excellent Duncan Designed pickups and their contribution to the sustain of the guitar. You could go have a bite. I was fully expecting to have to get new pickups but when I plugged it in for the first time I was so pleasantly surprised! They...

This: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7314/12626230574_0b1e293aed_k.jpg Everybody shat on the strat jack jag when it came out, I won't repeat the reasons why. It's one hell of a guitar, and is my favourite to play these days. I got rid of the fugly tort and added pickup rings and metal covers to the s...

Real butter, the kind that clogs your arteries and tastes so fucking good on anything and everything. Fuck margarine, this neck plays like it was used to churn the cream fresh from the cow and was never wiped clean.

New neck day... Faux 70's Mustang!

I bought a Warmoth neck from the classifieds for my '69 CIJ Mustang reissue. The stock neck was beautifully crafted, but the super narrow nut plus the 7.25 inch radius made it very difficult for my hands to play. I was always struggling to play chords. So this beautiful neck came up in the Offset cl...

i just hate that strat jack. otherwise it was a cool idea. i've seen projects where people fixed that shit and it looked great. also even with the strat jack, i kinda like the look of astro's, just would go for a white guard. The strat jack bugged me too, and at first I wanted to get rid of it some...

did you make the guard yourself? No, I bought it on eBay. I had to enlarge the pickup holes to fit the metal covers on the pickups. I wish I knew how to make pickguards, that would be fun! I thought of putting a mint or parchment guard on it before settling for black. Both of those would have been ...
