Compressors: What to buy, where in the chain?
Hi folks, follow on thread from the amp thread, want advice about compressors and where to spend smart money. Like is it worth dropping 140 bucks on the Keeley/Wampler/Xotics of this world or if there is a decent cheapo that we all love? Where do you run your compressor? First in the chain? When I s...

SONDS ACQUIRED: MISSION COMPLETE. He was a nice fella too, picked up on the British accent, offered me a cuppa and it was a decent cup of Yorkshire Gold, that never fucking happens out here... He was a session musician and did a bunch of stuff in the UK, apparently got addicted to the tea. Can't rea...

Re: 20-40w tube amps - what do we like SS?
So interesting development, I found one of these local to me: PRS Sonzera 20w which seems to review well also, hoping I get a job next week because if I do I will go check it out. Good pedal amp, 20w 6V6 and two channels for 500 bucks. http://offerup.com/item/detail/500663df-a7eb-3f8f-871f-f8703660c...

Re: 20-40w tube amps - what do we like SS?
if you are looking for a hand wired, non master volume, just turn it up kind of amp at a little less than Milkman prices. All ears mate. The PRS and a Weber attenuator. 50w is too big for most gigs, 20w is fine to gig with if you don’t play super clean, but way way too loud for home use unless you ...

Re: 20-40w tube amps - what do we like SS?
Also honourable mention for Milkman Sound If I ever win the lottery/become a millionaire somehow I will be buying one of these with the floral tolex, but for now I will be stopping by the showroom/factory in SF whence I next return to play a few. Apparently the build quality and tone are staggering,...

20-40w tube amps - what do we like SS?
I played through a buddies Fender Twin the other day after only playing through my Line6 and Headrush FRFR for about 18 months or more and I forgot how nice tube amps are and how "real" and "chewy" they sound with that glorious breakup and all the other good shit that we all jerk...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
Sigh.... Fender standard locking tuners too wide for the holes that are drilled. Far too late to get in the garage now, but I'm gonna redrill a bunch of stuff tomorrow, I need to feed the loom for the pickups and bore just slightly wider for my tuners (more than likely I fuck that up, swiss cheese h...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
My original problem with finishing the project was that the pre-wired loom from GFS was too short to hit the tele switch on the bottom horn and I would have to redrill to get the cloth wire through the cavity. Literally that week I broke up with my girl, decided that moving out of my house and trave...

I'm in Glendale (CA, not Phoenix) now, if ur SoCal I got a pool and two spare rooms (one is a guitar room rn), come say hey I love you. Lemme host the next west coast meet up... think about it,...

Re: NTPD -> New Tube Preamp Day? ART MP V3 in FX-Loop
Sounded good; certainly not night-and-day, and perhaps pretty similar to what a standalone EQ with the right settings. I'd wager that everything is already so compressed by the point it hits the tube preamp that you're not gonna notice any inherent "tubey" compression, just the EQ roundin...

NTPD -> New Tube Preamp Day? ART MP V3 in FX-Loop
TL;DR I BOUGHT A 12AX7 TUBE MIC PREAMP N' I'M GONNA RUN IT IN THE EFFECTS LOOP FOR FUCKING _TONE_, MY GUY I've been back on the whole guitar thing recently and asides from re-building a guitar and practicing with intent again, I've also been spending about 30mins - 1hr a day just being a gear nerd a...

Grounding guitar wiring
Hi all, made this a separate thread for visibility - is related to the Jazzmaster project I've got running but separate enough I think. --------- Harness: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Kwikplug-Premium-Harness-Telereg-Harness-HH-3-way-500K-pots-Black-and-White-Cloth-Push-Back-Wires-0047uf-Purple-Polyp...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
So now the only real tricky thing left to do is try to solder on a new wire on to the prebuilt harness I have from Guitarfetish, to extend the telecaster switch out to the right place. I'm not doing the soldering right now but today after I get back from SF tonight or tomorrow. My hands are far less...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
Fuck my ass. Fuck. So I was basically done, buffing the body with the orbital sander took off a chunk of finish and not even in a cool looking way. Heart in mouth, figurative dick in hand, I decided to sand back the area and build the finish back up again progressively blending into the current fini...
