I managed to carefully unsolder the caps and to resolder them into their proper spots. Wasn’t easy as the leads were cut very short. But I succeeded. Strangle switch is very useful, I was worried it would cut out too much bass but it still sounds good when activated. This thing is a blast to ...

Looks sick. Is it a Satin finish? Thanks! Yeah, paint is satin. I was going to clear coat but then I thought that doing so would take me another 5 years, so I didn’t bother. Didn’t even sand it, satin Krylon seems pretty durable too. Paint job is actually not that bad, I got lucky and...

Looks ace **happy** Thanks! I opened it up and looked at the caps with a magnifying glass... I put the strangle switch cap on the tone pot and vice versa. Oops. Don’t know if I can save the caps as I cut the leads after soldering them, might be too tricky to resolder such short leads. I donÃ...

Fuck that’s a good lookin’ VI. At least if the strangle is just a capacitor issue, it’s an easy fix. How ya finding the hotter pickup in the bridge? Thanks! Bridge pickup balances nicely with the other two, to my surprise because it’s a much hotter pickup than the others...

My new toy, 12 years to finish building it!

It’s a Bass VI 12 years ago, I wanted a bass VI, and there were no options other than Fender’s custom shop or vintage at the time. I could afford neither. This was before the Squier and the Pawn Shop models were released. I decided to build one. I started collecting parts, had all the ...

So I gave up trying to find a bridge from a bronco/musicmaster/musrtang bass, and ended up using the fugly bridge that I already have. Got a mint pickguard, wired up a lace sensor red I had in my parts bin with 500k pots and a 47 capacitor, and it's done: http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/328301449...

GFS have a lot of decent looking bridges, but I assume they'll be too big for the bridge spacing on that body You’re right, fender shortscale basses have a narrower string spacing than the long scale models. I can’t remember the exact measurement but that’s why I can only use a...

So I enlarged the neck pocket on the body with a wood file and my dremel. Now the neck fits nice and tight in the pocket. However, I chipped the paint around the neck pocket with the file: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7828/47239460432_88a4181155_k.jpg Thankfully I found most of the chips and glued ...

Finally got the body today! There's a tiny chip in the paint, which I already knew about since the seller had disclosed it. The interesting thing is, you can see that under the blue/green there is a layer of pink, then a layer of white primer. So I guess this was a body that was re-sprayed in the fa...

Body seems to be held up by customs for some reason. They've had it for 10 days, no idea why. Hopefully it will get here soon! In the mean time, I found a Schaller bass bridge in my parts bin. It looks like this: http://img1.stewmac.com/product/images/352/Schaller_4-String_Roller_Bass_Bridge.jpg I t...

Another musicmaster bass: making a decent bridge

Ten years ago I converted a Squier Bronco Bass into a musicmaster http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3567/3407769900_38416598c2_o.jpg It was a fun bass but I got bored of it and sold it. I've kind of regretted that since then. A couple of months ago I bought this on a whim: http://farm8.staticflickr.com...

American Performer Mustang and Mustang bass

Saw this over at Offsetguitars.com. USA made mustangs, the guitar even has a proper trem. No slidy switches though. Bass looks weird with truncated bridge and Jazz bass knob setup, but is still cool IMHO.

I had a candy apple red one for a few years, sold it to pay some bills. A really, really nice guitar. Has the same pickups as the Classic player Jag, which I liked. 9.5" radius and "modern" (closer to bridge) trem placement, which I also liked but those who prefer vintage specs might ...

Squier Classic Vibe Mustangs?

I recently saw on eBay some Chinese made Classic Vibe mustangs. Here’s one: LANK Are these new? Never seen these before. I wonder how they compare to the Indonesian made VM Mustangs. There was one up on eBay last week in red with a matching headstock. The ones I’ve seen for sale were a...

Low B string on a 30" scale bass, anybody ever tried it

Do they make 30" scale 5 string basses with a low B? I'm curious to know if a low B string would work on a shortscale bass. Anybody ever tried? Is the scale length too short to have enough tension to tune it that low? I'm thinking of getting a Squier Bronco bass to tune BEAD but if someone"...

Love the potato chip tuners and that it has a 9.5" fretboard radius. Hate the relicing however. If they offered a NOS version I would be sorely tempted to get one. If it also had contours I would definitely get one! But the fake wear and tear is just not my cup of tea. So that's a deal breaker ...

Looks ACE Astro! I've never seen the chrome covers before, even painted ones. its a pretty sweet option. depending upon what is under the paint they might end up looking really cool after worn down a bit. Thanks! I found the covers on eBay, there are chinese sellers that have mustang covers in just...

Why would you not just use black covers? It looks great btw! Thanks! I think proper chromed metal Mustang covers would look cool, it's purely for the cosmetics. Besides, I've already installed white switches and knobs... that would look weird with black robroe covers. The knobs would be easy enough...

Well, it took 3 months but the chrome robroe pickup covers finally arrived. Now the guitar looks like a proper Mustang. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4419/37233895895_d79f91d209_o.jpg The covers are just painted plastic. They look good now, but I have a feeling the "chrome" will quickly we...
