Nice guitar.
I had one in the 90's, a Fender Japan which I bought from a mail order guitar company called Flyingpig!

Still undecided on which colour to paint the guitar, my daughter thinks a sparkly LPB....
In the meantime i've put it back together so it can be played, sounds & plays great.

from a setup and tuning stability perspective, absolutely. i still don't like the three-saddle bridges beyond their aesthetic mojo, tho.
You can fit the 3 saddle compensated Tele saddles? Think Wilkinson do a set for around £20....

Fender Musicmaster Refinish

So I've stripped the finish (with nail polish remover & a cloth :))from my Musicmaster & had decided to give it a Mary Kaye style finish using Wudtone dye, either the Blonde or Olympic http://www.wudtone.com/product-category/finishing-kits/dye-pigment-will-solid-colour/ But the body has a co...

It says a C-shape neck in description. They stopped making normal necks at about that time. All the current line except for two or three models now have Slimtaper necks. Maybe it was only limited run models that had full necks Neck doesn't feel especially slim to me nor big but I've not owned a Gib...

There was a time I loved Mustang/JS necks, especially the 65 RI, but only really use my Teles at the moment. I think what feels comfortable changes as your hands change with age. The smaller scale necks seem a bit too restrictive to me and shallow flat necks like Ibanez give me cramp. I can't get o...

I'd say early to mid 70's, has 2 string trees and the white button F tuners

Are all Mustang necks created equal???

I have a 70's Mustang, I love it but...... it gives me cramp over the back of my hand which I can only attribute to the slim neck. I'm ok a couple times a week for 20 mins but any longer & no guitar for a few days. Eyeing it against my 64 Jaguar the necks appear almost the same with the Mustang ...

Well the single coil in the neck sounds lovely & warm. The humbucker has less bass is a bit hotter as its pushes the amp into gain & sounds a bit quacky/phasey..... I'm starting to wonder whether the switch has been wired back to front? Going to open it up later & check. Only if this is...

You can flip the two outer trem screws upside down thru the plate if they’re catching. I did this on the screw that goes under the high E/B strings as they were unwinding. I got that tip from M&M guitar bar website.http://mmguitarbar.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/demystifying-the-fender-jazzm...

Neck thicknesses were all over the shop in the 60s and 70s. The only ones i’ve Played that have had a familiar feel were the Musicmaster’s I’ve owned. They are also my favourite Shortscale’s to play. Every vintage Mustang I’ve had/played varied from super thin all...

I don't think they ever did? I guess when Johno says "original WRHB", he means someone put a real one in there, not one of the reissues Correct, modded before I got my mitts on it. I've got a black 1978 musicmaster, and I love the neck on it. Quite thick, as you say. How does the humbucke...

At least the bridge is good.
You could always turn it into an Esquire and put Cap on the switch to.give the already good sounding bridge pup more tonal options?

Nice, know it's not the subject of the thrread but I love that mustang. I bought that off Pat a couple years ago. Its been re fretted & had a Staytrem bridge dropped in as it suffered the classic e string slippage. Also bought an original 60's tort guard & some white pup covers. The switche...

NGD Fender Musicmaster

Belated NGD post. Picked up a 1978 Musicmaster a few weeks back complete with original WRHB. Always been curious about the WRHB as I never really got on with HB's but I quite like this one. Still find myself reaching for the non existent tremolo & the neck feels slighter fatter than my other gui...
