I kinda like the Load/Reload guitar sounds...it's more hard rock than metal, so I prefer it over the buzzy thrashy tone of their early stuff. I still enjoy Ride the Lightning and Puppets, but it's not a sound that I've ever felt the urge to emulate. The speaker could well be part of the problem...Or...

I know right? These things are pretty great for kids who are just starting out. The price is ridiculous for a brand new guitar. Made in Indonesia btw, so not even China can knock em together for as little as this. Now for some pics... http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4350/35614804114_a19c689e95_c.jpg A...

NGD: Squier mustang HH (now with pics)

I guess I'm back in the shortscale club now. I wanted a "second" guitar, preferably a hardtail with double coils, that's affordable enough to stop me being scared of taking it out of the house, and something that's generally just fun to play. First impressions: -Holy shit, this thing weigh...

It's kinda amusing how musicians have long discussions/arguments and are sometimes prepared to pay over the odds when it comes to "the guitar sounds better when it's made out of [this sort of wood] or [that sort of wood]..." but now it's expected that people will pay big bucks for a guitar...

I use 10s on all standard scale lengths, but bumped it up to 11s for my Mustang back in the day. I play almost exclusively half step down or lower these days though, so if I were to play my JM or buy a strat that's tuned to standard, I could well try out 9s again. I'm also conscious of the fact that...

Niiice. Zilla do good work btw, so I'm sure they did a nice job with the conversion of that. Mesa have been known to produce occasional gems that get overlooked in favour of their flagship ranges like the Mark series and the dual/triple Rectos, so it's nice to hear about stuff like this. Rectos *in ...

Shell Pink Mustang: http://andertons.scdn2.secure.raxcdn.com/2/1/images/catalog/i/xl_149913-tmp768E.jpg I bloody love the look of that. Hardtail, toggle selector switch...MIM I presume? I think I saw a white one in town last weekend, but I still prefer the shell pink. Something about the idea of be...

Two new Boss xx-500 pedals (modulation and reverb)

I can't say I'm surprised that they've brought these out, what with the DD-500 being a really nice bit of kit and the pretty obvious need to go at Strymon head-on. They look pretty much like Boss' take on the Mobius and Bigsky, or perhaps Eventide's Modfactor or Space. Took 'em long enough though. 8...

There's certainly an element of the compression to pick attack in some amps (e.g. a Deluxe Reverb with its valve rectifier gives this great "bounce" and sag that a Twin with its diode rectifier doesn't) but I dunno if the effect is heard on the fuller duration of notes rather than the init...

Cheers for the input so far, guys. :) The vote so far is leaning towards "Sloan" so I'll take that to mean that I ought to sit tight and wait patiently for a bargain. To summarise then: Gibson are overpriced, lower end Gretsches are mediocre and Epis are a bit of a lottery unless you go fo...

...hollow. As I mentioned briefly in the diary thread the other day, I start a PROPER JOB that pays PROPER MONEY this summer, so I can save up for stuff again (plus do other things like pay the bills on time and eat properly). To celebrate I want to treat myself to a #2 instrument as an alternative ...

I don't really like the idea either, but taken as a whole I quite like the guitar overall. It's one of those "[particular feature] is a bit 'off' to me, but I like most other things about it." It looks like how I'd imagine a Jag would look, if it had been designed by someone in Eastern Eur...

I'd be interested to see how these newer combos size up; I know the original ones had problems with heat dissipation, fucking up tube sockets etc. Hopefully they'll sussed it all out now! Aye, that was the issue I had with my old DSL401. Fortunately it was still under warranty at the time. The prob...

((hellyeah)) I sometimes think that 4x12s are overkill, then I hear someone playing through one and instantly remember why they're so awesome. Creambacks FTW though. I only had chance to try the 65W version, but various comparison videos seem to suggest that the 65s and 75s sound pretty similar to o...

The problem originates from bad QC at the factory, but I'd expect the store to pick up on things like that and either fix them or send it back. I would've thought that a *good* place who actually care about what they have on sale would give every guitar that comes through their door a quick look bef...

I could look past the 1990s web designing, if only I liked the look of the guitars themselves. Which sadly I don't. That's not to say they don't sound great or aren't built well, but they just look horrid. The grain of the individual pieces of wood that's used is interesting and each piece on its ow...

Seconded. The Modcore doesn't feel all that solid, especially with the plastic control knob shafts, but it's held up well in my home studio over the last year or two as well. It really is amazing for the price. Sure, you could get a Strymon Mobius that does everything the Modcore can do and do it be...

Man, I've not listened to the pillows in ages! That's a really cool guitar though - I quite like the Cyclone, but I've never found one in a store anywhere.
