Re: EHX Lizard Queen - First impressions
I dropped out of the DIY scene back when all these boutique builders starting throwing shit fits every time we discussed one of their circuits. I could see where it was going. Obviously many pedals were derivatives of past works, and those two circuits are free to reproduce, that was the point of th...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Yeah, I haven't updated in a few on this. After several aborted attempts, I decided I really needed to get the drill press I got from my Dad's stuff set up for this. It took a bit, it needed some cleaning up, and then I found out it uses an old drill chuck for which I did not have a proper sized key...

Re: Lefty Mosrite project
Cool. This is a bit of a learning journal for me at this point. I don't really have any new pics of worth, just been working to level out that tongue in the neck, and working on the slow work of removing the clearcoat from that section. It's pretty slow going, working at with sandpaper and chisels v...

Re: Lefty Mosrite project
20230502_192239.jpg Trimmed down the adapter to fit deeper into the pocket, now the "slant" accurately comes up against the pickup, which can be shaved down more later if need be. I got the neck tongue roughed in. It's hard to tell where it is measuring wise, so I traced it onto the adapt...

Re: Lefty Mosrite project
So, the hardwood store has really inconvenient hours, 9-4pm M-F, but I was going to take a lunch break and head up Friday. I checked before I left on their website, and they had sold out of those maple blanks. So, I did some more searching, and found out that Menard's of all places actually has mapl...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Okay, so I have the body back into my hands now! I also asked to have some body scraps sent along so I can make finish test squares. At this point, there's a few observations to make. 1. To my eyes, there's no appreciable difference to at least the initial layer of tung oil vs linseed oil. This is g...

Re: Black Jazzmaster Project
It dents insanely easy, I'm gonna hit it again with a can of clear coat... but like, it has two cans of clear on it and I'm like how much do I need to do? My Pacifica 112 cost 110GBP in 2003 has done 400 gigs, flown to other countries, has had one pickup replacement and has minimal dents for what i...

Re: 2amp rigs with added bass
I'm running a 2amp setup, but my setup is, Tuner(buffer)->Morley A/B/Y->SubNUp->MXR Bass DI-> Bass amp, then A/B/Y->DualRat->Palmer DI (GT2 clone)->guitar amp. We don't have a bassist, I am basically filling in the bottom end role, just two guitars and drums. Depending on what I am playing, there is...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Fuck. I was going to wait and do a photoshoot of my own, but this was just sent to me, the body and guard are done now, and it just looks so fucking good all laid out like this. I had to share. When it's back in my hands I'm going to do another photoshoot, but for now...

Re: Lefty Mosrite project
Yeah I spent some time with scraps trying to recreate the insert, but all the scraps I have left are too soft. I need to get to that hardwood store, was planning on going Saturday, but they are only open 9-4pm M-F so I'm going to have to figure out some time during work hours to get there. I mean, $...

Re: New Pedalboard lfg
Yeah it's really nasty because 0% interest. So you pay the same, just spread out... doesn't count as credit, they don't do a pull (soft/hard) of any sort. It was how I purchased the DD-200 which was 250ish and just barely felt like I spent money cos they took 70 and it turned up Fedex'd two days la...

Re: Lefty Mosrite project
Neck saga continues: I spent some time doing measuring and remeasuring, then doing a test run of shaping a piece of scrap wood into the slot fitment. I still can't find my damn router so I had to make due with hand tools. I'm fairly happy with how this turned out. I needed the piece to sit flush wit...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
We did some layouts for the final template. I had to learn how to do stuff in GIMP that I didn't know how to use before, the Path Tool, to get the proper curves done. This is the final draft now. Faint lines are OG Jaguar lines, so you can see how this body will be slightly smaller in comparison. In...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Yeah, it's a good idea. I'm glad you brought it up. I hadn't realized that I already have oil-mixable tints on hand to work with, so we'll see how that goes. One danger is that as I start doing it, my instinct to treat it like an oil painting and start doing weird shit with the pigment might kick in...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Hm. After a some googlin and some AI chatting, I think I could use my Burnt Umber and Indian Red paints as they are non-toxic pigments, so those should be safe to use. I think I will definitely try this out on some scraps.

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Yeah, I have worked with raw linseed oil quite a bit with my paintings. I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I have some knowledge about oils. Linseed and tung oils are both drying oils, which is why I was selecting them. I typically use a layer or two of just plain linseed as a clear varnish coat ...

Re: Scale length wtf??
Nah, it was just a warehouse liquidation by GFS. They just said they bought out a guitar parts warehouse, and were liquidating the contents. The necks were only $30 each so it's not unexpected. I had been wanting to learn to replace frets anyway, so this project is going to be expanding my skill set.

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany
Thanks! I am leaning towards just trying out the tung+linseed finish on the neck first, see how much it darkens, then do the backside of the body first, with some tint around the edges, and see how that goes. I figure it will be somewhat like one of my oil paintings, we'll just see how it goes, and ...
