A friend of mine has one of those. The stock pickups are single coils that look a little like white Rickenbacker hi-gains. It plays pretty well, but that metal plate on the top of the vibrato is really weird. I think she paid under $200 for it.

More colors across the board. For MIJ models that are sold in the US, make all the colors available. They've already done this with the Jaguar bass, how hard could it be? Stop doing signature models and focus on giving working musicians a bigger toolbox of sounds to work with at affordable prices. A...

When did Ric switch back to the big fret markers, 60's style?

That's funny, I was about to trade for a purple one last night through Craigslist. I got all the way to the dude's house and he changed his mind and decided he wanted cash. Too bad, it sounded great and the finish looks cool in person.

He was asking $325, just for the sake of comparison.

I'm wondering if they'll do these in other colors if these first ones take off? Probably with a big price increase when they do. I haven't seen any of the Classic Vibe series at Guitar Center at all. I wonder if they're afraid they'll outsell the Fender MIM Standards (which might have a higher margi...

Bought a Classic Vibe Jazz Bass

I needed a bass, and everyone posting about the great teles and strats made me want to try out something from the Classic Vibe series. I've been trying to find one around town since they were released, but then I got impatient and special ordered one from the big stupid store that I won't name. No d...

That's 19 guitars that I'd be afraid to leave the house with. They're beautiful, but my beat up ugly black-and-blue 360 sounds exactly the same. And I don't have to call Sotheby's if I spill beer on it.

ultraviolence, can you take a picture of those offending tuning pegs? If you're only getting two winds on the g and high e strings, you're doing it wrong. When you re-string, line up the hole in the tuning peg parallel to the nut. Then pull the new string taut against the inside of the tuning peg, a...

I've been happy with the Dream 180's. I think they suit the guitar well, and they give me a sound that I can't get from my other guitars. This is my first guitar with humbuckers, since I usually go for a very clean and defined sound and in my experience humbuckers can be a little darker than I like....

I have GFS Dream 180s in mine. The stock pickups are fine, but I wanted to use something a little hotter. Keep in mind that if you use a covered pickup you'll need to route the holes in the pickguard a touch.

I saw one of those today, too. I didn't play it, but it looked really nice. Nice finish on the neck, no fret sprout. They also had the classic vibe 50's strat, and that was very tempting. But I was looking for the 60's Jazz bass and they didn't have it. I've been looking all over NYC and I haven't f...

Thanks for including the Peavey T-30 on this list. That was my first ever guitar, and I think you just solved the puzzle of why I prefer the 24" scale. I don't think I even knew there were different scale lengths back when that guitar was my #1. I bought it in 1992 (I think), and finally got ar...

Checked my amp tonight. The reverb tank hangs down underneath the amplifier above the left speaker (left when looking at the amp from the front). It's not very big, not quite half the width of the cabinet. But it's definitely not present in that head.

Whoops. Didn't read words... distracted by pictures. The JC-120 reverb is just okay anyway. If you can grab it cheap, go for it!

I have a JC-120, and it's a spring reverb, so it does have a tank. I believe that it hangs down under the amp's guts, rather than resting on the floor like a Fender. Unfortunately, it's at my practice space so I can't pull it out and check. But, from that picture, it looks to me like they pulled out...

The best thing about House of Guitars is that it's like 4 tiny buildings held together with duct tape and bubblegum. Nothing is level and there are all these narrow passageways stuffed with guitars. I was in there for over an hour, and thought I'd seen everything and then all of a sudden HUGE room f...

All four of them live in or around NYC (Northampton is less than 2 hours away when traffic is good), so that might explain why they're on the bill and not a bunch of surf legends. Plus, I think this bill will be a really big draw. I'll certainly try to go.
