depends what guitar it is really.

i like to do as much soldering off the guitar..but some guitars like the jaguar this isnt really possible. but with guitars like the jazzmaster i can wire it up completly on its guard then pop it in.

you nearly had it right with the first one...you just needed some cheapo photobucket effects..

before spraying it, i would get some good polish/buffer and it will probley come up looking shiny like new.
