It seems that wait times have come down significantly since they got the new CNC machine.

Presumably anything custom might still take a while, there's still a big back log of orders I imagine.

My wait wasn't very long, but I only had a couple of custom options (slight radius, different tuners). A few months at most IIRC, and I ordered this back in 2006 - it's only #85. They weren't as expensive back then!

I played this constantly for a couple of years, and it's a great guitar but don't imagine the construction doesn't have its drawbacks:
It's heavy (can't think how heavy an all-alu guitar would be)
The sound can be very harsh coz of the treble
Goes outta tune as the neck warms up
Very thin neck takes a bit of getting used to

I've had a hard time finding prices for the EGC customs?

how much are those usually running? I wonder if I could convince them to do a ebony fretboard.

Base price for customs is $2,300.00 USD, according to their website.
Options included in this price are body shape and finish. I guess it'd cost you extra for other features.
AFAIK, they don't do wooden fretboards but they could powdercoat it flat black for you.

hmmm. that's actually not too bad.

although a a purchase would definitely be in the future (about a years time) it definitely gives me something to think about. I really wish I get a hold of one to play it, though.

Kramer made a fair amount of aluminum neck guitars that you can find for lot less money than a Travis Bean. But the Kramers aren't usually that pretty.

this one's not ugly

I've been watching that guy.

it was listed at that price and no one bid, so I'd be hesitant to drop that kind of dough on something when no one else will. it doesn't seem like a crazy high price but people don't seem to want to pay it.
