NGD - Gibson Custom 339 Thin Neck
well kids.. i'm sure you've looked at my classifieds ad recently (or not) and wondered what the fuck i'm doing selling giving away some great stuff for moderate cash amounts..
well it's because of this:
Gibson Custom es-339 thin neck
i played it a couple weeks back, and it's been killing me ever since.. i shouldn't have done it..
esp with the $2300 price tag..
but, I've sold a few things, on here, to friends, and trading a couple more in (one i have posted, the other i don't) and i'll be financing the rest of it.
so when i get back from shipping off AEN & ENDS guitars i should have this in my hands..
sweet luscious hands..
i did try the Epiphone version, as well as the non custom - thick neck.. and sadly (for my wallet) neither of them really felt or sounded near as nice (ok the 339 gibson thick neck sounded as good, but i just didn't get along with the neck.. and for $500 difference, i wish that i could have)
The epiphone was super nice, but would have required and immediate change of the pickups, and how they did the "vintage burst" on it was just horrible..
i mean i LOATHE SCUM BURST but, the vintage burst on this just works for me..
i posted an InstaLame picture of it a couple weeks back when i was trying it out..
so i'll put that here for now..
and take some pretty shots when i get back.

i haven't even made it out of the apartment yet, as i just finished packing up the two squiers to go out.
need more cardboard boxes to ship the tele, & fender jag.
and now i've a buddy stopping in for coffee, so i may not be able to grab the 339 till tomorrow..
i'll be giging with it (thank god for insurance) but i'll be only playing it for solo shows
and not zero cool.
i'm pretty excited..
i figure i'm 32, might as well get an "investment" guitar.

thanks guys,
so i headed down to the guitar shop to pick up the 339, but both the sales guy that i usually deal with wasn't in, and neither was the dude who has already approved my financing.
i chatted with my buddy in shipping for a bit, grabbed a nice new box to ship the other guitars.
the newbs they had on for sales staff today couldn't even figure out the notes left on my account explaining how it should be done should the guy not be there.
either way i'll be heading in tomorrow to pick it up, trade in the acoustic bass
and give them a lot of cash.
oh, and this is my 5000th post.

i agree, also turns out the thick neck had been purchased, and then returned and had some scratches or something.. (not that scratches have ever prevented me from buying a guitar...)
Anyways..
I went and picked up my 339 today.
I've never owned a guitar that came with its own certificate of authenticity before...
but GAWD DAMN is it nice.
ended up being less then i was expecting it to be.
so that's pretty awesome.
Still expensive, but totally worth it..

Feels like they shipped it with maybe 10s .. maybe..
i've played it for about a half hour so far, then decided i should take some photos while there is still some light outside..
i'll be changing the strings shortly, probably to 11 - 49s w/ a wound 3rd..
give it a nice polish as well at the same time.
my dwarfcraft Eu Clair Thunder showed up earlier today as well.. so tomorrow i'll attempt to get a demo done, though it looks like an already hectic kinda day.

Live it and love it, you deserve it!
One of my best friends here sadly ended up with the exact same model/finish that turned out to be a bit of a lemon (fretboard issue), but the sheer scope of tones and smaller body size made it a nearly perfect all-arounder for pop and rock, with great looks to match.

sad that he got a lemon, i tried it again before picking it up, to make sure, even compared it to the cherry red finish 339 they had in stock, but the neck on the red one just wasn't quite as nice (or maybe my mind was playing tricks on me)
i'm super stoked on it..
thanks for the kind words my friends.
i've a gig this saturday, not quite sure if i'll break it out for the shows quite yet..
but it will certainly end up on the next (solo) album

Awesome looking guitar! I agree with the statement that everyone needs an F hole guitar. Mine is a TC-90. Itis like a mutant product of Fender and Gibson.
