Vocal kind of pitch shifty thing?

Around 0:42 there's a weird effect on the vocal. It sounds like a pitch shifter, but it isn't just a straight octave down or anything, my brain is confused. Any idea what this is/how this is done?

It's cool as all hells.

I thought it'd be something like that, but then how is he managing to sing the right melody if the pitch shifting is a gradual thing?

EDIT: Unless my understanding of pitch shifting is deeply flawed.

Is it that EH vocal processor thing Robroe had? My ears won't let me click on the video, but that has lots of fun effects that'd appeal to the sort of band they play in Starbucks.

Sounds intriguing, but could that work in a live context?

If I'm not mistaken its a Roland VT1. The guy on the synth must be dialing down the formant slider.

Noticed an influx of vocal-specific effects pedals out lately, like the Boss VE-20, TC Helicon/VoiceTone series, EHX Vocoder, Voice Box and Talking Machine, etc... there's really not a lot you can't do live with vocal effects now, though entrusting the average soundman to receive such business with minimal soundchecking would make me worry.

Not sure live but I was referring to the record.

Yeah, sorry, I got that. I just meant that they seemed to pretty much get it sounding exactly the same in that live video as it sounds on record!

I think riotshield might be bang on with the Roland VT1.

Just realised that many more pedals should be purple and gold with sliders.

That's why he's using in-ear monitors in both ears. What vampire boy is hearing in his monitors is NOT what is being amplified and fed through the board, thus he can sing in tune. Without the monitors giving him his unaltered vocals mixed with the band, he'd sound like... well, watch Robroe's vids.
