White Epiphone G-310

Post by omari »

a band mate gave me this guitar; it was having some electronics issues.

and, it was really really dirty. it's been played off and on for about 7 years and i don't think it had been wiped down even once. it was covered in a thin layer of blood, sweat, and beers.

but here it is after being taken apart, cleaned, and reassembled (sans strings). the white has yellowed quite a bit over time but you can't tell in the photos.

my plan is to replace the pickups and knobs, convert the electronics to one volume - no tone control, and maybe install a tremolo.
i'm going to do my best to keep this one simple (and cheap).

i'm probably going to order a pair of these in white; the GFS surf 90s. anyone have experience with them personally?

i think since they're only going to go to one volume pot, i should get a 250k. thoughts?

There was a thread about those pickups recently

http://www.shortscale.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53231

I'm thinking about some to put in my old Ovation Tornado (it's already been hacked for normal sized buckers from before I bought it, and has GFS Brooklyns in it now).

I would leave the volume and tone controls stock and just swap out the pickups. A lot less work and you don't have useless knobs.

got some parts in from Guitar Fetish. Surf 90s, one toggle, and one 250k volume pot.

i had to chisel a little bit of wood out of the bridge cavity for the pickup to fit.

i don't have time to wire it up today. and i'm still on the fence about putting a tremolo bridge on it or not, but im digging how it looks so far.

Looks cool with those pickups

If you end up going with a trem, I installed one of these on a G-400 and it was pretty straightforward, fun to use and you could get a drop-in roller bridge from GFS too.
