I tried to buy one but their website is glichy. When I entered mu CC info on their "secure" page I got a pop-up with some 3rd party asking me to re-enter credit card info.
Made me nervous so I backed out.

Was The Prinz model brought out after the original Madcat model that Prince plays?

Ah nooooo! I'm looking for a nice cheap Tele, and I love the guitar sound on those early Prince records. I just don't think I could play such an instantly recognisable guitar. I mean, this is like the Jag-stang x100.

That looks excellent quality for the monies. Headstock shape looks the same as the old Fenix Telecasters from the 90's which made me wonder if there is any connection, like using old stock or something.

*Edit* I'm sure the Hohner version still goes for around £300+ second hand.

The last time I saw a TE Prinz on Ebay it sold for $1400.00 (link)

The Madcat was made in Japan by Morris under the HS Anderson name. The same guitar was sold overseas under the Horner brand. That is the one Prince has.

Horner reissued the guitar as "The Prinz" in the the late 80s or early 90s.These were made in Korea by Samick. In the mid 90s another version called TE Prince was release by Horner(that is the one in the ebay auction. and then in the 2000s Horner released 2 more versions one made in Korea and a deluxe version made in eastern europe(I forget were)

This was a limited edition made in the same factory in Japan as the original These sold for about $3000 a couple of years ago.

Which version?

One like Prince has? His guitar is an HS Anderson Mad Cat that was re-branded as a Hohner. There were only about 500 Mad Cats made in total including the Hohner versions.

Hohner made a couple of reissues in the 80's,90's and 2000s:

The one at the top below is the current reissue, the Hohner HTA490 and the one in the middle is the Hohner "The Prinz"(first reissue) the one at the bottom is THe Hohner "TE Prinz"(second reissue)

So the one Prince plays has a thin center stripe and a guard like the first one. The real deal (and those first two reissues) looks really classy. I'm sure the HB is a good guitar for the price, but it doesn't come close, looks-wise.

This is what the originals look like. The Horner Logo and the pickguard material is different than the reissues.

Here's a cool photo from the Dirty Mind era. I guess the venue was on the warm side.

I remember when they reissued these that some were made in the Czech Republic, which I thought was odd at the time.

I think some of the Fret King guitars and some Patrick Eggle's were being made there too.
