Is it possible.. Jaguar tremolo to xii

Post by Awstin »

I'm debating about building an electric xii but instead of using the impossible to find original bridge, use a 12 string tom bridge with a jaguar tremolo. Is it possible to use 12 strings with one? Has anyone ever tried? It looks like it would work.

The guy who took over for Rhoney can make them, and staytrem made a jm bridge to accommodate 12 strings...

That bridge is definitely interesting. I've seen the rhoney xii plates but I want a trem. Would a tremolo with 12 strings be too weird? I can't even think of how cool it could sound.

Vox did that with their teardrop, I've heard it is really hard to keep in tune. Instead I would get a custom top plate made up, make the octave strings fixed and the bass Strings on the trem. You could do this with a plate, or do what adh did, put a string through plate between he bridge and trem, and run the octave strings though that. Sunburst guitar...

You could lose your lock and mount that to the front of the trem for the octave strings, use the two front body screws

Now that's an idea. Might look a bit awkward though. I can't decide if I wanna build a xii or a maverick.

Was thinking you could use a 12 string wraparound bridge and just have the regular strings running to the trem..... doesn't seem to exist though

Perhaps a mustang trem, twelve string bridge and a stop tail. Set the trem further back than normal. Where the bridge would normally go you'd have the stop tail, and the bridge in front?

Would rely on getting a stop tailpiece to fit the mustang holes?

With the recent Fender buzz about these guitars I'd hold off for a bit. With what Fender Squier are doing I wouldn't be surprised if we see these reissued soon.

Yeah. I decided to build a starcaster and then three months later they reissued them... Maybe Winter namm will bring something new.

That works on Jags, so why not? I have a 12 TOM on my XII because it was missing a key part of the bridge. The spacing is just fine.

the traditional JM/JAG bridge works for A XII fine. Find your notch and go...

..but like any 6-saddle bridge used on a 12-string, that means the intonation is a compromise for those courses that have octave strings.

yep, intonating on a tune-o-matic or any 12 string bridge with paired intonation isn't going to be optimum. i don't like it at all
