Just pay up and get a Squier Jaguar SS. You will NOT regret it.

You'll only ever need one bass. Might as well get one that doesn't suck ass.

For cheaps I second the Squier Jag bass idea. I see em go for $120 used in shops around here pretty regularly, and they're not half bad and look pretty cool.

I went the Squier CV P-Bass route and have not wanted for a nicer bass (other than a Rickenbacker) since (I've had it for 3 years now).

That said I jammed with some guys once who had what I remember as probably one of those little shortscale SX rondo basses that I played on a few songs, and it was totally playable and probably cost the guy $60.

I have my mates old Westfield that I can't recommend enough, but also can't find any images of.

It's basically a ripoff of Queen's John Deacon's P-bass. So it's natural with tort, a P-bass neck pickup and a J-bass bridge pickup.

Can't seem to see any but I can't imagine they fetch much second hand.

I have a squier cv jazz bass and its nice but 99% of the time I play a bronco that I bought used and put a hotrail in... its just the best neck and it was $70 and it sounds good

you might get lucky with an Aria Pro II CSB-380 Cardinal series bass... I once got one on ebay for £50 and it had a very playable medium scale neck. It was a great bass. Kim Deal played one on early Pixies recordings/gigs.

i'd say for full scale you should really check out the squier classic vibe range. i have a 50s blonde p bass model with upgraded seymour duncan quarter pounder. it's a great bass but the neck is too chunky for me. it was up for sale in the classifieds and is still for sale if you're interested.

however, failing that and my desire to sell, i'd check out the squier p bass "special" i think it's called. it's a p bass body, p bass pickup with added jazz bass bridge pickup and it has a jazz bass neck which has a much slimmer forgiving taper toward the nut.

here's a completed listing so you know what to look for: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squire ... 7675.l2557

mine is black metallic and i think the previous owner added tort. looks great. he also added a dimarzio bridge pickup and seymour duncan p bass pickup. it is now my number one bass. they also go for cheeeaaap

also bottom line, i think if you're going to own one bass, it should be a p bass config. for me at least, it is "the" bass sound.

I don't have a bass or know anythig about them, but when I think about getting one on the cheap to dick around with this is what I would get. And the wrist band to show I mean business.

Cheers for the suggestions chaps... took heed of whoever said you'll only ever need one get a decent one. Played a few Squiers in town today, came to the conclusion I need a jazz bass not too keen in all the p bass' I played. They had a nice natural one that just needed a tort guard shall wait and see how the funds look at the end of the month...

Is it the big block, seventies looking thing? Love that.

Keep meaning to get a couplobasses. I want that big block yoke and the Squier Jaco-a-like.
