Dualling Champs!

Post by HNB »

I picked up the 1976 Champ in trade and was excited to compare it to my 1973 one. I had my '73 slightly modded and the also have two different speakers so I thought it would be cool to have variety. (One more stock and one modded.) The '76 is on the left. It has a Jensen speaker iirc, and my '73 has a Weber. My '73 has more gain and low end. The '76 is brighter. I have a back panel coming in for the '76 and some tube retainer clamps since the tubes in it are trying to slide out. Main thing I notice is that the pots in the '76 have plastic shafts instead of metal, the logo doesn't have the tail on it, and the grill cloth has a little red/orange hint in it along with the grey and blue. Here are the pictures.

Nice - I run my Vibrochamp and my Princeton in tandem like that (through a stereo delay). It's a lovely thing.

You could do that by either getting an rca to 1/4 jack adapter or by wiring a 1/4 jack in to it. My modded one has one of those so I could attach it to a speaker cab if I wanted. You could also have the place mic it and play through the house speakers?

I think every single venue in this country mics amps, but i was just asking if it is loud enough to be a monitor whithout a drummer with brush sticks.

Nice pair. Really like my 75. Its kinda worn but sounds great. Cleanish up to 7-8 with humbuckers and all the way with low wound silvertone. Jensen c8r.

Cosmetics more like your newer one, metal shafts though.

Cool. Not sure why (I guess cost) Fender would use plastic shaft pots on stuff....

I think it is loud enough if it was mic'ed. :)

You should get 2 more champs or vibrochamps so you can have wall of champs similar to Brian May's AC30s!

All champs from different years, then use ABCD box rhytmically and call it the "time machine"!

In tandem means basically in "stereo" or tandem is more inline?

*edit.. could be the same thing i'm thinking*

It's probably British slang for some kind of sex-act.

I split them through the stereo outs of a delay pedal (an El Capistan) so I can pingety-pong the Space Echo sounds from different corners of the room.

Yeah I do this also. I tried 3 way and it wasn't as cool as I expected. It's super handy with ehx stuff like the ravish sitar and you can run the drone strings to a whole different amp with its own effect chain. Sounds so badass.

Another idea, you should mod one to have a switch to take out the Negative Feedback loop out of the circuit, so it can go to Tweed champ land.

The tubes in one were a little loose, so I decided to order and install some tube rings to help hold them in place. They installed super easy. Just unscrewed the two screws for the tube socket and screwed them back in with the ring there.
