Hohner ME-30 (Shin Ei Weirdness)

Post by Bacchus »

One of these has come up locally and I think I'm going to pick it up. This is from when Shin-Ei owned Hohner I think and it's one of their weird basket case pedals. Seems quite rare and I can't find any YouTube demos of it.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what it will be like, but I'm hoping something weird and bonkers.

Looks like this:

That’s cool, they sound like they’d be pretty weird. If the “siren effect is a footsweepable cop car noise I’d say you done good already.

There was a design variation on it at some point

I remember tracing out the circuit of a multi-effect pedal along these lines back in the day (1973)... I must dig it out and see what the pedal was.

I'm sure the cork was a huge improvement.

Having second thoughts. Can't decide if it's brilliant or stupid.

Before I clicked on the video I wondered if this would be the pedal The Sweet used for the siren intro on Blockbuster in 1973. I think it is!

That alone kind of makes it cool.
The hurricane setting sounds like something Hawkwind used on the Warrior on the edge of time album.

It is a bit daft, suppose if it's cheap cheap it's worth buying just as a wah/volume.

Fifty quid, reckon I can get that back for it if it doesn't take.

That's what I'd figure. If it's not useful, it should move relatively easily to a collector of oddities.
